Which would I be better off getting? Xbox One or PS4? Right now none of the games have me saying I have got to have it but I mostly end up playing Battlefield, FPS and racing games. Without a huge fight which looks the most promising??

Background: I did have a Xbox 360 and then moved onto the PS3 but liked both.

Whatever your friends have.

Both are superb machines.
PS4 slightly better visuals ...Xbox ONE has nice gimmicky voice commands.

Can. Of. Worms.

Standard answer "get what your friends have"

Non standard answer... Is going to be pages and pages long hehe

Ps4 is the more powerful console and most games are cross platform these days. So unless you are really Forza obsessed I would say give Sony your money.

Ps. Bf4 plays smoother and at higher res with more effects on PS4 too wink

I've just replaced my launch edition PS3 with a PS4 and at last the graphics are a match for the high end PC I had with a super dooper graphics card 10 years ago.
I bought Battlefield 4 and it's good and Assasins Creed Black Flag what I really want though is a new version of Skyrim and the Fallout titles to show what it can do.
Never had an X Box so can't comment.

Based purely on PS3, PS4 will have better exclusives.

You and me both.

OP, as above, what do your friends have?

As above, what your friends have unless you want to make new friends smile.

Other than that its what you prefer from the previous generation because the controllers are similar, there isn't really that many unique games on either, most main games are on both anyway!!

As has been said, they're largely the same.

I had a PS3 and have just got a n Xbox one. My reasoning was that this was going in the lounge and we often have friends round - so Kinnect whilst a gimmick, will probably get used.

Have both, and think both are brilliant. I know people compare the graphics, which favours the more powerful PS4, but I'm not sure I notice the difference. I don't go from COD Ghosts on PS4 to Titanfall on Xboxone and notice a difference that spoils my enjoyment. Perhaps it will be more noticeable as developers get to grips with them.

I loathed the PS3 with a passion. It always seemed to take ages to install updates, vs. the 360. The PS4 seems much better.

As an all in one media box I prefer the xboxone. We control everything by voice, it has pass through for the TV, dlna for streaming video from NAS/tablet/phone. PS4 has some catching up to do here.

Kinect 2.0 is a huge step forward from the kinect for 360.

PS4 controller much more comfortable than PS3 one. I always greatly preferred 360 vs. PS3. For me PS4 and xboxone controllers similarly comfortable.

Playstation plus better than xbox gold, so far.

So.... get the one your mates have smile

Thanks for all the replies!

Its a bit 50:50 on what my friends have, reason I got rid of my 360 is because I got the ring of death and just fancied a change.

On my tv setup I have everything stored in a cabinet located in another room to my tv which I control with my Logitech Harmony remote. If I was to get an Xbox One would I need to have the Kinect in the same room to control the xbox via voice recognition?

I've been debating the same question. For the most part the games I play are cross platform but the promise of (slightly) better visuals has me going towards the PS4.

Now, Gran Turismo or Forza? The latest versions of both games have some serious flaws as far as I'm concerned and neither have me convinced. I know gran turismo 6 is PS3 before anyone says! I should really wait until Forza 6 or GT7 is out but right now, I'd be buying the PS4.

Kinect would need to be in the room you're watching the TV in, but Kinect isn't essential. It can be deactivated if you can't use it or don't want to.

Well, I'd say go grab each of the controllers and see which you prefer then.

The PS4 controller is pretty cool now IMHO, but I've not used the XBone's version.

A couple of weeks ago I was going through the same dilemma. In the end I went for the XBox One. Basically I like the Kinect 2.0 functionality, and before FB bought Oculus Rift, I was envisioning have a VR headset with the Kinect, and think that when/if that happens it will be a killer combination.

I'm biased after owning PS 1, 2, 3 and now 4 but it really is a great gaming machine. The XBOX is a good machine too but more of an entertainment console than the PS4. My mate was a die hard Xbox 360 fan but has just switched to the PS4. He tried both machines and preferred the Sony. It's a bit like the Samsung iPhone debate. Both capable machines with fan boys for each. Horses for courses.

Standard advice, get the one your mates have biggrin

Do you mean like the PS4's Project Morpheus?

I know that Sony are working on VR (and that Microsoft are themselves) but the thought of using a VR headset and then using the Kinect to just reach out and grab something, rather than using a controller as you'd have to do on the PS4, is much more in line with true VR in my mind
