Toyota FT-1: Time For Tea?

Only static in Jay Leno's garage unfortunately, but another opportunity to gawp at it!

Presence. That’s what the Toyota FT-1 has in massive quantities. Even away from the glitz of a motor show stand and in Jay Leno’s ga-raj, there’s an intangible aesthetic draw that keeps your gaze. It may not be conventionally beautiful but the FT-1 doesn’t want for visual impact.

In this video we discover even more about how the FT-1 looks with the car’s Exterior Chief Designer Alex Shen and Interior Chief Designer William Chergosky. There’s discussion about production feasibility (go on Toyota, please) as well as a few details previously missed (see the engine strut brace going into the cabin). Furthermore, it proffers more chances to stare in wonderment at that amazing interior.

Given this video has had over 100,000 views in just two days, it appears plenty of others share our enthusiasm for the Future-Toyota Number 1. And you thought Mid-engine Rear-wheel drive 2-seater was prosaic... Let’s hope this isn’t the last we see of it.

I love the rear spoiler, so cool.

Be interesting to see if they keep the transparent engine cover and also if the car wasn't red then would the engine cam covers be the same colour as the body? hmmm.

I'm not usually one to go on looks (I drive an Impreza, after all). But I have to admit that it'd sell this one to my hook, line and sinker.

I think 95% of people would agree this is a fantastic looking vehicle and it's still distinctively Japanese.

They even made sure the interior creaked like a proper JDM when Jay hopped in

My dad had a Honda S800 with an interesting optional extra - a Perspex bonnet - back in the sixties. Nice touch.

Incredible. I can see the price being "approachable" in the sense that a 911 Turbo is approachable, not in the sense of a Lexus LFA. I hope they build it though, it looks amazing.

Nice machine, hope at least 90% makes production if it goes ahead. I may be a bit bias, but i reckon there is a bit of TVR Sagaris DNA there, the general profile, the wing vents, the profile of the rear lights.

£45k is beyond dreamland! A Renaultsport Clio costs £21k these days.
