Aftermarket Ring Apollo DRLs - anybody fitted some?
Discussion
Can anybody here share their experiences of these specific aftermarket DRLs please?

How bright are they? How blue are they?

I don't believe this will go the way you envisage..

I fully expect it will go the way we both imagine... but among all the rants about whether DRLs are s
te and tacky and pointless and unsafe and so on might be, just might be, something useful.I'm an optimist. Don't let me down, PistonHeads

I have seen these and they are very bright but expensive!

Just turn on your sidelights?
That's got to be the most cost effective thing to do?
5w 501 bulbs on most cars = very dull! That's got to be the most cost effective thing to do?
I do think that something bright at the front does help; I've noticed that when running on dipped headlights all the time I get less cretins pull out in front of me.

You think that styling is more important than safety?
Just asking!
where's the proof they are more safe?Just asking!
I should imagine this is why the Swedes have done so for years and why since 2012 DRL's are a legal requirement on all new cars, no?
Perhaps why nearly all bikes run with headlamps on in daylight too?

But at £30+ a set for the type of bulbs I use and the fact that they last about 8 months, I guess LEDs could make sense.

Change your sidelight bulbs to LED bulbs, these are really effective. It's a cheap option to try first, I've done this to both my cars and they look great. + look more standard than naff aftermarket.
Google "CREE LED" + the bulb type and these are about the brightest you'll find.Reasoned discussion! There's a risk here that PH is going to let me down.
The sidelights on my XKR are hopeless little points of light from tiny bulbs. LED bulbs seem a bit hit-and-miss in the way they're designed so I haven't taken the risk with trying any, but I have thought about it. At the moment I do use the headlights in variable light, but I don't want to run with headlights on all the time because my car has active lights that poke around all over the place as I steer... and I don't want to wear out this (presumably expensive) mechanism, burn out the bulbs, and waste the 1mpg of fuel.
I want a solution that is brighter than the feeble sidelights but not as bright as the dipped beams. I don't care whether it looks OEM or not and I'm not a fan of those cheap-looking LED fairy lights I see a lot. These round Apollo lights would fit behind the XKR's grille and be almost invisible when turned off, which sounds perfect. But I'm concerned about how blue and chavvy they look so I'm hoping for real-world experience from someone.
This thread has gone better than I'd expected so far!

I think the thin strip DRLs mounted in the top corners of the lower grille would work best. There are a few here to choose from:

In order of personal preference.
OEM DRL>OEM Sidelights>Aftermarket Sidelight LEDS> Aftermarket LED DRLs
Aftermarket DRLs never look "right", and a decent sidelight upgrade will do the same job,
I replaced the sidelights with LEDs on the MX5, so I don't have the popups up during the day. They're not quite as yellow as you would get from 20 year old sidelights, but I prefer them to the fogs.
