Juddering when braking on BMW.

Hi,

I am looking for a bit of advice before I take my 2010 BMW 520d to be seen. Had the front pads and discs changed at a BMW specialist about 300 miles ago. There was juddering before and changing the pads and discs solved it but now it's back. When I slow down from say 70mph it's really noticeable from 20 mph to 0mph.

Any ideas as to what it is, could the tyres have anything to do with it, they've only got about 2.5mm tread left on them. Also I only drive the car on weekends and it stays on the drive when not driven so could that cause it?

Did the Indie fit genuine parts? I'm guessing probably not just cheapo patterns from Euros.


Saying that, IIRC 5 series do love a front suspension bush or 3.

Tyres won't help either. Get some new boots anyway. 2.5mm is legal but most places recommend new at 3mm

Could be the brake reaction bushes; they went on my 335d; took two sets of new front disks to realise!
Quite common I think; a mates 520d (2007) has just done the same.
Mine were sorted but never quite felt right afterwards.

I had my discs skimmed on the car recently as apparently 5 series are probe to have hubs with run out, machining the discs on the car takes out the hub run out.

Mine were bad at motorway speed, now there like new!

Not 100% sure but was charged £300 + VAT, will probably have a look at the receipt. Would the suspension bush not be picked up at the MOT though, with at least an advisory if it needed replacing?

Don't suppose you know if they were a problem on the F10s, quick google says they were a common fault with E36 and E46.

I'm afraid I don't know! Mine was an E91 so not either of those two either.
Might be worth getting it checked.

Maybe not. It could be visually fine and only have very slight movement when the cars not under load when braking.
