Briefly
Existing car - private plate (came with the car) will be selling shortly, either with or without the plate as I could tranfer it to a replacement car, that has a private plate that I am not particularly interested in already on it but, but could sell that new plate on to someone who might want it.
What is the proceedure and how much will it cost?
I don't really bother with private plates normally.

To transfer one plate to another car costs £80 and to put the other plate on retention costa £105 all the paper work has to be in the same name but can be done at the same time all sent to DVLA.

I remember doing a rather complex swap involving (I'm hazy on this) 3 cars and a motorbike.

Anyway it all went about as wrong as it possibly could have done, with every single vehicle ending up with the wrong plate and one numberplate, a 1930s "ABC 999" type, disappeared completely yikes!

I was very very lucky to manage to get hold - on the phone no less - of a chap at Manchester DVLA who jumped through hoops to sort it all out for me, and in a couple of days at that.
