I'm going to have to make my first ever windscreen claim. I'm insured with Admiral (multi car) and wondered, does this count as a full-blown claim that I'll have to declare at renewal time?

It never used to.
It's likely it doesn't now.
However it's possible that some insurers now count it in some way.

Best to ask your insurer at renewal time for the most accurate answer.

On comaparison sites there is a drop down for windscreen claims it may need declaring but probably won't make any difference to the NCD or price quoted.

They certainly seem to know, mine mentioned on renewal "You're ok, you've only had a couple screen repairs" If they know of something relatively small like that, they'll know about a replacement screen.

I've got a couple of chips I was going to get done privately (depending on cost) rather than bother with insurance, any recommendations around Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire?

When I claimed for a side window, I didn't acrue a years no claims for that years insurance, e.g. if I had 7 years at the start of the policy, I still had 7 at the end.

Might not be a claim but it will be weighted somewhere, how much difficult to tell.

I had to make several glass claims within a couple of years.

It didn't affect the prices, but you have to declare it.

Some insurers on comparison sites will ignore all polices with claims, so it's possible you'll miss out on some deals, but in the grand scheme of things it's unlikely to make much difference.

Of course they do, you might only pay the excess but they pay the rest of the cost and have to approve every job before it goes ahead (at least that's how Autoglass works and I can't see why it would be different for any other company)

No access to pay as it was a windscreen repair with my policy. The repair was done in 2010, in 2014 and three different insurance companies later they still knew about it, must get recorded on a central database and accounted for in the premium, how they do it is a mystery.

That's why I was interested in getting it done myself and keep everything clear.

Yeah it's a mystery. Might even be some kind of black magic.

This happened to me too with Swiftcover.

Maybe 7 yrs is their maximum?

No, I phoned to query it, no ncb accrued if a glass claim was made.
Can't remember the company, I tend to change each year.

I've just had my Admiral renewal through and my policy was loaded by an extra 20% due to being hit in a car park and claiming against the other drivers insurance in full and making a windscreen claim.

Incredibly frustrating, but due to matching a quote from the start of March they were still the cheapest - as soon as I have a chance I'll be changing to another company.
