a record of the surgery kept? as in any issues during the op that I was not informed about ?
I am not one of these who chase a claim for every little thing but I have been diagnosed with an incurable lung disorder that only developed after my op. (the op was not lung related) There is more to this but obviously cant go into on here any advise on how I can obtain records of my op and after care it was nhs not private, My standard of life is lower and can only get worse over time. any one out there has any similar experiences, I will need to seek advice on how I stand legally but know there are a lot of experience here on PH many thanks

Records are kept of every contact with the NHS, from birth.
You can get copies of these yourself via a 'Subject Access Request' under the Data Protection Act, but what normally happens is that your solicitor will request these on your behalf.
Providers are allowed to charge up to £50 for each and every request, so getting copies of GP notes, hospital notes, A&E notes, physiotherapy notes, X-Rays and the like could get expensive if you were to go it alone.

It would help if you could provide a few more sketchy details around the edges like:
1) What was your initial medical diagnosis
2) What op did you have
3) What is your new pulmonary condition
4) Who diagnosed 3)
5) Why do you think they are related

Is everything which happens to people who have medical care a "wrong" by those who provide the care?
Are all people who work in the NHS "b
ds"? I agree that there are mistakes, as in other complex systems; occasionally this leads to terrible outcomes, rarely there is negligence and very, very occasionally there is a cover-up. Trite as it may sound, the huge majority of people working in the NHS, like nearly everyone else - cleaners, hairdressers, builders, accountants, teachers, bus drivers, lawyers, even politicians (!) - in our society are doing their best to enjoy their own lives while getting along with and helping others.
PS re. OP. There will be an operation note and anaesthetic record of everything which occurred during the operation and medical notes relating to the period before and after your anaesthesia. Just ask; I expect they'll give you a full copy of your notes without having to pay lawyers to get them.

thanks for the input im in the real world and accept things do happen, what I don't accept is cover ups ,not to say there were are any ! however when in hospital tests were done and scans etc (admitted twice after the op nothing was picked up by the hospital and my local gp ! it was about 6 months down the line after many more gp visits that it got refered to a specialist consultant who immediately picked up on something and diagnosed !! near on a year after the op, I will ask for the op notes thanks for your inputIs everything which happens to people who have medical care a "wrong" by those who provide the care?
