Airfields open to the public
Discussion
Are there any airfields that are open for the public to drive on? I just had a new LSD fitted to my car and I want to have a play around without any danger of hitting other cars. Trackdays are a bit scary, I only went to one once and saw someone write their car off :/
There's a disused airfield near me but it looks like the farmer next door owns it and there are trespassing signs so I figured best stay away.

lol yeah, "hi there Mr Farmer can I use your airfield please?"
"What for?"
"Well I want to rag my high performance car around in circles and see how much slidey sidewise funtimes I can have before the tyres explode
"
"Arrrr sure boy go right ahead"
I'm sure that's exactly how it would go :P

I wouldn't reccomend trying it on a regular track day anyway as most of them don't like people drifting around corners on purpose.
Unfortunately I can't see a Farmer allowing it, even for a bottle of his favorite tipple or a cash incentive. The risk of your mates turning up and then the word spreading and more people turning up would be far too great a risk for any farmer.
Find a dedicated place to do it; Santa Pod does Drift What Ya Brung days for example. Then you can slide around in relative safety.

2 things:There's a disused airfield near me but it looks like the farmer next door owns it and there are trespassing signs so I figured best stay away.
1) I went to a trackday once and saw 2 or 3 people write their cars off. I also saw loads of other people go round all day having a marvellous time and not damage their car in the slightest!
2) Ask the farmer if you can use the land. He might be interested in what you've done and so on - you never know. He might be an enthusiast himself. The worst he can say is 'No.'.

Javelin track days run events at Barkston Heath where you can slide around as much as you like. They run cars one at a time so you won't get caught up in someone else's mistake.
