Anyone know the details of the S2 upgrade? Last I heard it was only available on new sales and was not going to be available for retro-fit for a while.

Has supply improved yet and does anyone know which Sports Exhaust they fit (if any)?

Thanks.

I haven't heard of the retro fit yet - but speak to lotus motorsport as they will know.

or try Nick Adams on the OLC website.

The exhaust is a Janspeed I believe (or its manufactured by them and called a lotus sports exhaust)

FWIW - Expensive upgrade in terms of £ per BHP
yes its the 'lotus' official one but for my money PTP 140 looks far more reasonable (and better torque curve too)

Yeah, don't bother with the official Lotus upgrade.. I struggled to notice the difference against the standard Elise to be honest and I really was looking!

I was thinking the same re:value for money. However Autocar seem very enthusiastic about the 135 (see this weeks 111s review where they concluded that the 135 is more fun to drive).

I'm also a bit concerned as to how the PTP conversion might affect re-sale value. With the Lotus upgrade I reckon you will get slightly more on trade in than a standard S2. With the PTP solution you may end up losing money cancelling out any initial financial advantage.

The PTP solution will also invalidate the Lotus warranty which is also of some concern (as are implications surrounding the MIL).

I'm curious as to why Lotus aren't using PTP for the S2 135 since it seems PTP did the S1 version? I guess it may have something to do with the S2 using a Lotus Engine management system ...

No! It's not! The TT260 turns the Exige into a seriously fast car, a S190 can't keep up with a powerful car in a straight line like the TT can.

well it depends what type of owner you are

I would suggest resale values on the S2 are not going to be great anyway - so get it done the way you want it - PTP will provide one year warranry on the engine I believe.

As to the lotus 135 version being better to drive than the 111s - again very subjective - the 111s is a more refined car - the 135 requires some serious revs to perform.

111s has a better gearbox -- drive both see which you prefer - magazines just rate the one they have been told to rate - its not a real opinion.

The lotus kit at that price will wipe out any perceived saving in resale - in MY opinion

The Elise is a second car so the extra civility of the 111s is of no great benefit to me ...

I think the Autocar comment was based more on grin factor than whether the 135 is actually a better car (which I very much doubt).

If I were buying now I'd probably go 111s, but I'm not so the 135 seems a good option for getting a bit more power (to me the S2 feels fractionally more under powered than my old standard S1).

I agree about PTP being better VFM, but even so I'm reluctant to go with a non Lotus solution (OK, I know I'm a glutton for punishment).

PTP produced the 135 kit for Lotus for the S1, I beleive.

So their knowledge of the product and quality of the goods / upgrade should be ok.

No connection, etc..............

I have an S2 135 that I got during the Jan-Feb special offer. The 135 is easily better when you hit 4500 rpm and goes on to the red line where the standard is fading quickly about 6000.

I have tried a couple of S2 111s and there is not a lot of difference. The 135 has slight more torque very low down and slightly less above 6000. I have taken the figures from Nick Adams OLC and plotted them in Excel and this confirms what I experienced.

The extra weight of the 111S engine and the lighter wheels were not noticeable driving on the road. I doubt most people would notice the difference on the track.

The exhaust on the 111s is quite a lot quieter than the 135, but the 135 is a bit boomy.

I have concluded that I will not swap for a 111s but spend the money on a TT190 or more likely a TT230 (as the 135 upgrade already has a polished cylinder head).
