What should I be looking for with a budget of 40K???
Discussion
Chaps, the Aston itch needs to be itched sooner rather than later! I've had TVRs for years but I think I need to grow up (...and my wife agrees
)
So, for a 40K budget what should I be looking at? I love the lines of the DB9 coupe and Volante but I also like the V8 Vantage. Not really knowing too much about the cars can I please ask the PH Aston Collective what they would recommend?
Should I be buying through a dealer or buying private? What are the best colours for resale?
I'm sorry if these questions have been asked a million times before but I'm serious about making the jump. The Tuscan 2 is going up for sale next week.

It's been said a thousand times before but I'll say it again: buy the book.

Only you can decide: Vantage, DB9 and DB9 Volante are actually all quite different. Perhaps tell us what you want out of your purchase and we'll point you in the right direction. If you want manual, Vantage is pretty much your only option. If you want GT, the it has to be the 9. And if you want a bit of wind under your toupe then it's the Volante. A combination of the two?? It's a Vantage Roadster with a sports shift box.
Go drive all three (or four) and really take in their individual attributes, do loads of research, read the books, spend all night on You Tube, speak to other owners, look up past reviews .......... And then buy what your wife tells you to.

The waters are muddied with gearboxes.
DB9 generally has TouchTronic full auto with paddle override. It also has full 3 pedal manual boxes available, I have a one and it's excellent.
V8 Vantage is generally 3 pedal manual, there is also a Sportshift option which is a manual box but paddle only. Auto mode is useless on it though so don't count on it.
All cars are sporting, all are GTs. The 9 is more GT, the Vantage more Sporting. There's no better or worse, it's what you want.

Thanks for all the advise
I paid a visit to the AM Dealership in Wilmslow, Cheshire early and had a really good look round the V8 and the DB9. I think I have made my mind up and it going to be the DB9 Coupe. Test drive happening next week
Will have to up my budget to get a 2007 model though. Looking forward to doing the research and will be ordering the book later..

Please try a manual car if you can find one - you might not be able to, they are rare. I came from a Tuscan myself and it makes it a really logical progression - that big engine and that manual box but a more luxurious car with a far better braking, ride and handling package.yeti said:

To be honest Lewis, I'm not too fussed about a manual gearbox. I drive the road Tuscan like a pussy these days as I get all my kicks on the race track with my Tuscan Challenge car
I quite like the idea of floating around with an auto box with the option of using flappy paddles

How ya doing Colin? Not seen you for ages. Are you going to that TVRCC tyre kicking orgy on Sunday? I might go and stick a for sale sign on the Tuscan
Nope, not this time, unfortunatley, can't drive for a couple of weeks (on medical grounds).
May see you at a DTEC round or maybe the Aston meet at Burghley, if you get one. Say hi to Dot..

I'm only doing 3 rounds of the DTEC races. Not going to Brands or Snett. I'm having a change this year and doing some of the Future classics races.I've been given the
so it looks like its all systems go for the hunt for a DB9

Nicolas Mee is advertising two manual DB9s with sportspack at the moment so you might actually have a choice. Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

had to look that one up FPMSL
