I'm about to re-enter the world of car ownership having had an enforced 5 month break courtesy of a disagreement with the Sherrif of Dumfries on what constitutes appropriate speed for the conditions.
A number of the classifieds attracting my attention are sporting pale leather interiors and a few folks are warning me off these - pointing out my two sporty (& frequently muddy) children, and also that pale leather gets marked over by dye from jeans etc.
I'd dismissed this, but then saw Chris Harris in his write up of time with the CLS shooting brake mention the same thing.
Not a very PH question I acknowledge, but is there any way around this - don't most marks just clean off if you care enough about that kind of thing?

I have two cars with magnolia leather. Jeans are the worst culprit, especially on the drivers seat.
It does wash off quite easily, and I don't wash them that often. Once every couple of months. I really like the light leather, so much better than morbid dark colours.
One of the cars has tan leather, this too is awesome.
Don't worry about it. Even cream carpets come up clean with a wash. When the Mercedes mats need done I take them to the jet wash. Its very easy and they come up very nice.

The wife's 3 series has "lemon" (basically off white) leather and it still looks great after 5 years/45k miles. Dye transfer from jeans comes off easily if you clean them once a month (baby wipes do a very good job of this).
+1 I have lemon leather in my 3 series and yes, it gets dirty, but always cleans up well with. Baby wipe or two. I've put 135k miles on our Volvo with pale beige leather seats and carpets. Not a mark on them. Give the seats a wipe with a good leather cleaner like Autoglym or suchlike and any marks will lift right off. Give the floor mats a good shampoo every quarter and they should be fine too.
Personally I don't use baby wipes. It's true they are good at shifting marks but they contain silicone which builds up on the steering wheel and seats and I think it makes the surface feel a bit slimy. Use an e-cloth with a bit of soap and water, wrung out til it's almost dry on your steering wheel, and take care not to rub too hard.
Nothing nicer than an airy, light interior. Give me that over gloomy black every time.
