A80 - Temporary Speed Limit

Apologies to all our non-central belt Scottish drivers, but as a regular user of the above road, I am worried about the flouting of the temporary 30mph limit that is in place on this road.
Since the roadworks started, the 30mph limit was adhered to for about the first 2 days, but has since been almost totally ignored, with speeds upward of 60mph not uncommon.
Flashing 'Reduce your Speed' signs were installed, with little effect. Indeed, one of them is illuminated 24 hours per day.
If plod do come and carry out speed enforcement then every single driver will be NIPped. I myself do about 40mph+ on it, but only to keep up with the flow of traffic. Anything less is asking for trouble.
Anyone seen plod on this road? I use it every day and have never seen anything.

What use is it complaining about the speeding on this road, when you're speeding by a fair margin yourself?
If I'm driving through roadworks and somebody drives up my arse, because I'm sticking to the speed limit, its their tough shit.

I drive this route frequently on the way to stirling and i have to say i do drop my speed down a little, ever since i passed an unmarked 330d with two burly gents in it with those funny patches on their shoulders.. as they passed me, they motioned me to slow it down a little, and to be honest, 40 is fine. 30 is far too slow for that road. and if you're going to do 30 do it in the bloody inside lane and get out of the way of others who feel 40 is more appropriate.
The problem is that 30mph is way too slow for that section of road - and the restriction is on for too long, these signs need some forethought from the people issuing them. This is one of the busiest commuting sections in the country and the road planners need to keep the traffic flowing, 30mph is just silly.

The speed limit is there to protect the workforce. You might well say they should use the tufty club rules but to be honest, it's so easy when working to take a step back without thinking etc - there have been a number of accidents like that.
30 is a bit low right enough, especially over the length of road works on the A80. The recent 40 limit over similar works recently on the M8 between J3 and 3a was a bit better observed - and the workers there were less well protected by barriers than the ones on the A80.

the problem is that there usually isn't any workforce about - when you also realise that this road is the main link to the north and a 30 limit is imposed for far too long a stretch you start to get a bit irritated. the sheer volume of traffic when the workforce are working means that traffic is generally going at 30 anyway, it's just when there's nobody about it gets irritating!

Can anyone confirm there has been a change of policy... years ago roadworks on motorways were 50 and A roads were 40 sometimes 30. So WHY especialy with concreter barriers between the workforce are motorways frequantly 30 when they drop to one lane. I assume its some stupid H&S tightening. Problem is people who would in todays enviroment of speed fear would have done 40ish under the old system are now seeing no real danger to equate to a stupidly low 30 and thus dicountit meaing they then end up drivingeven faster than if they had a 40 limit they adhered to.
Sorry for the long post but some of the new limits take the piss. I've seen dualcarriage ways were you have 70 then round a corner they drop ro 30 with no road works in sight mad.

I'm not sure of the exact letter of the guidance James but yes, it is to do with H&S. And yes, it is stupid - if the limit is 40 and reasonable (like on the M8 a few months ago) most people stick to a speed around that. 30 would seem to be too low - at the A80 most drivers ignore it and are going faster than they might if the limit was 40 (if you see what I mean).
