Aha. I thought the Tempest had an in-line engine, so was surprised to see this labelled as one. I guess that's the principal difference with the Mark 2 then.

Anyone want to see any more photos of this museum?

My Great Uncle flew them along with Sea Fury and Sea Hornet. Cool Machines.

Matchbox made a model Tempest which you could build in either in-line or radial engined version.

Quite a nice kit too and could be a good basis for a decent model

And yes please I would enjoy seeing more photos

You couldn't do that with a real one though, as the fuselage tubing leading up to the engine mount bulkhead was different.

Special Hobby does a more modern rendition.

More modern rendition? You mean more chrome, bigger wheels, Lowered undercarriage, smoked perspex???

The Special Hobby version has a lot more internal and undercarriage detail than the rather basic Matchbox kit.

As Perdu mentioned, Matchbox gave you two different noses to allow a Bristol Centaurus Mark II to be built or a Napier Sabre Mk V. They provided Indian Air Force decals for the MKII. I used the RAF decals from the Special Hobby kit on the Matchbox kit. I'll build the Special Hobby version later as an all silver RAF aircraft.
