Bought a new Chim a few months ago as a 'summer car' and never thought to put the trickle charger on. Result can't open the doors. What do I to prove car is mine and how on earth do I get into it to put the charger on. Hoping to use it tmrw as weather sound in Northern Ireland.

Ok so I'm in thanks to a PM. Battery compartment open but when I attach the battery charger the whole car seems to buzz intermittently. Not sure if this is usual, my little charger only goes to 4 amps. Is there some alarm reset thing I need to do also and if someone could recommend a make model of battery that would be great.

Appreciate the help.

Your battery may well be "fecked" (a technical term much used in the land of rain and guinness) anyway, so my advice would be to go get a new one so that you can drive it tomorrow come what may - should cost about £80-90, can be got for less if you fart about with mail order and lose the weekend's weather.....

I installed an Exide Excell 072, or it may have been an 073. All I remember is that the one the battery place first dragged out of the stores had the terminals the wrong way round. So make sure you know which way round they go with the terminals your side of the battery.

The battery box is fixed through the floor - you will find the two nuts under the car. You then pull aside the ECU and other assorted spaghetti carefully, and lift and pull the battery box towards you, after releasing the terminals. Refitting is a pain in the arse.

You can then take your time about getting the old one recharged or binned, depending on state - take it with you to the battery place.

PS, when you have the new battery, you my need to re-pair the remote to the alarm. Not sure how that is done, try locking and unlocking for starters. There are threads, use the search.

Just to add to QBees advice, before unbolting and removing the battery box, puts some marks on it and the floor, makes it so much easier to line with the bolts when refitting...
