Front Numberplates

There have been many topics on this on PH. It is illegal but if you are happy to break the law that is your choice. The police do stop drivers ans issue offence documentation. Up to each driver not good in my view. The danger of "it fell off I've got it in the boot " made up story is that you are then in danger of breaking the more serious laws of obstruction etc etc and may well end up in real trouble. It would not be difficult to prove the lie is you get stopped three or four times and the police have been known to do this. I like a quiet life within the context of owning many cars some of which are on the very edge on the road so I personally avoid this additional risk.
Yes, as others have said, unless you happen to have a car where it is either very difficult or impractical to fit one on the front, don't really see the risk.
Of all things to get fined for, numberplates seems a silly one.
Personally when I see a car without a front number plate, I tend to assume it is one of the american forces members, lots around me and they tend to not put plates on.

Given the volume of traffic on the road it seems entirely reasonable to me to require statutory forms of identification to enable identification of the car and therefore the driver. If you miss off one plate why not miss off both? You presumably could argue that both fell off.The real problem here is that in a crowded country with many millions of cars and drivers on the road identification is critical to justice in the event of an accident. That is the reason for front and rear plates in the proscribed formats and I cannot see how this cannot be other than entirely sensible. Individuals can try to suggest that they are above such things but not in the eyes of the law. I would suggest that this is perfectly reasonable on the grounds of safety and administration of justice alone.

Caterham plate was ripped off by a speed bump so I kept in the passenger side. Forgot to take the screws out though and after a beer run plonked the bag down and psssssssssssssst beer everywhere 
Took the NSX plate off as well, it was a hideous thing and ruined the front of the car. Luckily I never had any grief, whether this was the attitude of everyone towards these particular cars or not I don't know? I can imagine they will tighten up on this though as there are so many cameras etc
