LA would like to barcode my recycle bin?

Obviously fines are what they hope to impose, however I've often wondered what it would achieve. A person who doesn't care less wouldn't modify their behaviour and a reasonable person would probably take offence. Upon getting a fine I would just stop helping the council out by recycling and dump it all in the normal bin, thereby harming the council. I don't get it.

Well it's not obvious unless you have the tin foil hat on, there are lots of reasons why fining doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Disposing of waste properly/safely takes money and unfortunately a 'one size fits all' approach of simply taking away anything put in the bins often gets abused by some who just chuck away large amounts of stuff that could be easily recycled because it doesn't cost them any extra. Well, not directly - everyone's bills will go up.I doubt people would stand for paying an averaged-out electricity bill so it makes sense to move towards a scheme that charges people who produce more waste, more money.
The suspicion will be though that this will just be used as a way to screw the public for more money, generally. Given the way that councils work I think that voters should bear this in mind and keep a close eye on how the scheme is implemented and what happens to council spending and tax. But wait - look what Miley Cyrus is up to and who will win the big football match this weekend .... errrr, what were we talking about again?

Add a subtle extra line to the barcode of your, and as many of your neighbours as you can manage without being seen, bins.

I pay an awful lot of money for a pretty minimal set of services. Charging for waste by the kilo is misguided - it will lead to epedemic levels of fly tipping. Just you see.

Tx, we have bin Nazis, they won't empty our recycle wheelie bin if there is a plastic bag in it even though they are recyclable. The bar code would just reinforce my view of them. It's another step to weighing your bin and billing accordingly, the bin lorries are getting the facilities and they will probably scan the bin at the same time.
I can see hedgerows filling up with waste a lot more in future and it will cost even more to clear up.

We used to put our rubbish in one bin collected every week. Then we were told to seperate it both collected once a week. Then it was each bin every other week. Now you say they may charge us to collect recycling, wtf?!TX.
I have a 40 gallon oil drum which I use as a waste burner.
If its burns it goes in gets torched late at night then the cold ashes are put in the bin.
Our recycling lot will turf out screen wash bottles ( empty I hasten to add ) from the plastic bottle recycling tub.
I've given up trying to reason with them so I just burn stuff or chuck it in next doors bin ( she works away a lot and produces minimal waste so I get extra bin space and she gets her bin put out by me when she's not in )
