The not so practical motorway commuter!

Browsing eBay for LPG bargains as I do, I have found this beauty!

I have some serious want for this as my motorway commuter car, and I even think I could afford the fuel with the gas conversion. Would this be a totally bonkers idea?

I have no practical advice but that interior looks just fantastic. I'm sure it would be a magnificent wafter but even on LPG it would cost a bit to run, I would have thought you'd be lucky to crack double figures mpg on gas. If anything went wrong the bills could be too.

I ran and XJR on petrol so can deal with the 19mpg running costs (albeit on the rolls factoring in the LPG!)

Yes its the bills that seem scary, you would just be terrified of anything going wrong!

I seem to recall a top gear where ( totally made up) was invited to open a swimming pool.

Iirc he was talking huge numbers for parts like brake disks

Top gear isn't always accurate but it stuck n my mind.

I really like the velour! I've a 50 mile twice a week motorway commute and that would be lovely if bonkers way to pass the miles.

The fact it's been retrimmed in velour means that it was neglected then retrimmed by someone who couldn't afford to get the job done properly.

It will never be worth anything because of the retrim. An expression involving a barge pole comes to mind.

It's one of those things that has no logic or sense but the more you think about it, the more it appeals.

You have to go for it and accept you could lose the purchase price in potential repair costs. i.e. one serious problem and you write the thing off.

But that's part of the appeal. Running something so improbable and unjustifiable that it's more tempting as the risks rise.

You could fall hopelessly in love with it. That's another risk. Or you could end up running it for just a few short weeks / months before you cut your losses.

Hell, go for it.

Back in the early days of motoring leather was for the chauffeur's seat since it was more hard wearing than cloth and the car owner got the luxury of sitting on wool or velvet or whatever. Some people prefer cloth to leather still.

Lpg conversions on the early SU carbed models would be quite cheap as it's a very simple setup. Easily less than a grand doing it yourself. Not sure how much it would cost for the later injected types though.

I remember the brake quote too. But looking online discs are £200 a pair and pads £100 a set, so in no way extortionate

Description says the velour is ex-factory.

I don't see there being a huge difference financially in retrimming with leather or velour.
I had one of my cars retrimmed in leather and it wasn't that expensive, the labour was the expensive part.

That's some fancy looking velour. Quite pimptastic and very inviting looking. It's been done properly, door cards and everything.
If it was done on the cheap it would have been subjected to repairs and partial retrim.
