best place for tyres

So im needing some new tyres.

have looked on blackcircles and cam skill, and all of the tyres they have in my size (195/65/14) they are only T rated, whack is 118 mph.

my car will be going on track at some point soon, and i don't really want to get new tyres just for track, just want to run these new ones as there will still be plenty of tread left before the track session as i don't really do many miles.

yeah there will probably not be that much tread left after the track day, but still plenty for me.


but i cannot find any tyres in the size I'm after that are rated for more than 118, an my car will top out at 140+

any other sites other than blackcircles or cam skill that do decent tyres?

Tyreleader seem to be about the cheapest going.

Not sure about stock levels of tyres you are looking for though.

Get the cheapest price online, without fitting.
Ask Kwikfit to match it with fitting.

having seen tyreleader.co.uk, they have quite a good choice and prices.


but i have never bought tyres for a car before, only motorbikes and they are rated a bit different and i know whats good on bikes so even if the ratings are not that good, i know what the tyre s will do in terms of performance.

Surprisingly, Amazon sell tyres but they only seem to go as far as H rated (130mph)

Why do you need such a high speed rating? What speed rating were the tyres fitted by the factory?

I am a member of Costco and their tyres are VERY competitively priced. As a guide I buy Michelin taxi tyres for £69 each where everywhere else, they are over £80. I have searched the high and low and nowhere comes close although I think they just do Michelin and Bridgestone.

Mail order tyres? Never again for me - consider this. There are four parties involved. The purchaser, the supplier, the manufacturer and the fitters.

What happens when you're not happy with the tyres when they arrive or they are not as described?

You have no recompense from the suppliers, they'll just hide behind the sale of goods act and get all arsey about industry standards and what they are entitled to supply - in my case a pick and mix selection of tyre manufacturing dates all over two years old which had been badly stored and were impossible to get within acceptable Roadforce balance specifications. The only situation they'll even consider accepting any returns under is if you sign a industry standard form completely absolving the manufacturers or suppliers of any responsibility for complete destruction of the tyres during testing with no compensation for your loss. In addition to that you'll have to fork out for removal and return carriage. In reality the manufacturers just stonewall and insist the supplier takes full responsibility for handling returns. In the meantime how do you drive a car without tyres? The only solution is to buy yet another another set.

Fine if mail order tyres save you a few quid. But if it goes tits up you're on your own.

Lesson learned and never again for me - next time I'll get quotes and get my local tyre supplier to price match and supply and fit. That way there's only one company responsible for any problems.

Our local one is Michelin only, I think. I must admit I've never actually checked their prices. I usually use Camskill for the Octavia and a specialist supplier for the Elise.

I went to my local Kwik Fit one quiet midweek afternoon, £25 fitted and balanced. They might have charged more if the wheels were on the car though.

Steve - In fairness to tyreleader they do offer different DOT codes at different price points on their website - so there is transparency. Not had a problem with the four orders I've placed with them so far. I have always checked the tyres before accepting delivery, as I don't want the hassle and cost etc of returning such a bulky order to Germany.

What are the current thoughts on Micheldever? I used to go there regularly for larger tyres (20 inch wheels) as the saving when buying 4 greatly outweighed the cost of buying them locally. That was before the online places started to ramp up their business though so I don't know how things currently stand.
