We don't often change our cars, so I can't remeber the last time I needed to buy one then sell another. Both my wife and I have cars, both using our seperate NCB.

My wife wants to buy an Eos and sell her MX5, so for short time she will own 2 cars. How do most people deal with insurance with regard to insuring both and shifting the NCB from old to new? Once we have the Eos, the MX5 will only be driven on test drives.

We're struggling to find a car we like, so its not practical to sell the MX5 first (mostly because sellers seem the think that parking scrapes and curbed wheels means a car is in excellent condition!).

Also whats best for selling a car like an MX5, PH or Autotrader?

Ring your insurers. They'll almost certainly cover you for the second car for a short while cheaply.

Ring them up and let them know, they're usually quite reasonable as these situations are very common.

Yup call your insurers and they will likely add both cars to the policy until you sell it. Will cost a bit but not really any other way to do it, unless you just don't insure the MX5 until it's sold. Any buyer will require their own insurance to test drive it anyway regardless whether you have it or not.

Probs get raped for an admin fee as well, and assume they will up your premium anyway for changing mid policy.

isn't the normal practice to transfer the policy to the new vehicle and then put the old back on as a temp additional vehicle ? or is that far too much like sense for PH...

Thanks i assumed a normal insurance co wouldn't do anything other than standard policies. I want to keep both cars properly insured as I once had a car stolen from my drive that was off the road for 6 months, and wasn't insured frown

this is 'normal' stuff for most insurers / brokers - tamp additional vehicles is not that wierd nor are temp additional drivers ...

Cheers. It makes sense really, it can't be an unusual situation that someone needs to buy their next car before selling their old one.

Not all insurers will do that. Easiest option is just to sell the old car first but that isn't always practical
