Cycle GPS.

Afternoon guys,

Has anybody had any experiences with a GPS unit for the bike? Was planning on using the iPhone but battery life is a major limiting factor along with a mount for it.
Had a quick scan on Amazon and THIS ONE looks OK but thought I'd post up in case anybody has found or used anything better.

What do you want the unit to do?

That thing you've linked to I've not heard of, generally the advice for cycle computers is :

Don't require navigation - Garmin 500/510
Do require Navigation - Garmin 800/810

All we're really wanting the unit to do is be able to follow a pre-determined route, via a link or download from MapMyRide / Strava so that we're not constantly stopping to check the map on the smartphone as the cycling that my girlfriend and i are doing is all in areas that we're not familiar with.

Get a second hand 800 if you want to save a few quid, if not then a new one is likely the best VFM navigation proposition at the minute, I don't think for the extra money the 810 offers much, and the new 1000 that's coming out is £500!

Yes I'm aware of the 305/705 but they're ancient, and you can get 800's for not a lot now, good bit kit.

A garmin touring is an 800 without ant+ features. (But the touring plus has cadence). If all you want is routing, then they are a good buy.

Also look at the mio range, they aren't as good as garmin for interfacing with strava etc. but their routing is good and the screen is better than that of the garmins. They are a little cheaper than the garmin touring, too.
