2003 BMW M3 CSL
Discussion
Hi all,
Presenting my second car on PH, my CSL.
The car was modified with a sportier focus in mind, the result is breathtaking, sharper than OEM, obviously louder and boasts an agressive stance.
Yet it's been absolutely reliable, modifications were carried out to the highest possible standard.
Production No: 255
Colour: Sapphire Black
Production Date: 08.10.03
Unique No: 157 (of 422)
Modifications:
-Supersprint stepped headers
-Supersprint mettalic Cats
-Supersprint mid section
-Supersprint Lightweight Race (new since 1.000km)
-Schrick 280/288 cams and Schrick rocker arms fitted
-Intrax rose-joints
-Intrax camber-plates
-Intrax 1K2 "Nürburgring"-suspension (new since 5.000km)
-Reinforced subframe
-Powerflex bushings
-H&R spacers
-Wiechers strutbrace
-Wiechers half cage
-Re-mapped by PPE @ 384bhp/411Nm
-Cornerweighted by PPE (50:50)
-Geo by Black Falcon
-AP-racing 6-pot front/4-pot rear
-Pagid RS29 pads
-Braided brake hoses
-OMP-Corsica steering wheel
Some here might have noticed this car is currently up for sale, as it needs to make place for the GT3. However I'm happily looking for a solution to make place for it, as it's such a beast of a car and a real joy to own. Even if it would only serve to look at. Most beautiful and best BMW ever made imho.

Looks great. I assume the ride must be hard due to the intrax? I read in a couple of magazines that the standard ride is pretty firm. How much power do the engine mods make?
It is pretty firm, but not unbearably so, they're in their halfway setting so I could soften them up if I wanted to. I like to feel connected to the road, obviously without making it skip across bumps. The OEM suspension on a CSL is excellent on the road, really not too hard and offers great control. On track, you do desire a bit more body control.
The engine mods result in 384hp if I'm not mistake, and a noise to die for.

Beautiful CSL
What do you think to the 288/280 Schricks? I'm currently trying to decide whether to go for those or standard CSL cams, in my M3. I've read that they can affect driveability quite dramatically; did you find that was the case. Mine is a road based car so I'm not keen to sacrifice too much low end response.

I don't think it affects driveability that much, granted, flooring it at 1.500t/min is not going to get you anywhere, but a CSL has always been at its best in the higher rev ranges.

No downsides as far as I'm concerned. It stutters a bit when floored at little over tickover, but I regular CSL might do that as well, that I don't know.
To me, it only adds to the charm.
