Goodday,

Is it possible to bleed the power steering system. Mines whining, or is this a knackered pump.

Yes... but you really don't want to.... If you want the worst job in the world and I mean the worst job then by all means consider bleeding the pump but...

Now I've got you worried, the pump is self bleeding. Absolutely nothing to do except make sure that the reservoir has lots of fluid in it. Just top it up as it could be getting low. You might have a leak and not noticed the low fluid level.

My PAS has always made a small whining noise at low speeds (or was it the passenger )- I've always assumed it was one of the 'they all do that sir' options, what with the effort of turning 215/50 15" tyres.

I'll keep my eye out for a leak.

I agree with the advice to check the fluid level first. If it hisses or whines when turning the wheel, it could well be the fluid level. Look for drops of clearish, pinky fluid on the ground or garage floor. Good luck!

Noise seems to be getting increasingly worse. Only possible leak I can see is from the bottom of the pump where the pipe comes off. The fluid level has stayed level for about 2 month so if it is leaking it ain't drastic.

It is starting to pi## me off now.
