Are sunglasses actually danger goggles?
Discussion
A neutral density filter does not reduce the amount of information entering your eyes.
If you need a metaphor, if you take a load of numbers and halve them all with enough precision, you still have as much information as you had before.
Polarising sunglasses reduce the amount of raw information entering your eyes, but it's usually information the eye isn't capable of understanding anyway.

I never drive wearing sunglasses. It feels like I'm in the box. Doesn't feel right.
As the risk of pointing out the obvious, you are in a box.
With the roof down, driving into the sun, I'd say sunglasses are a must - at least I can see with them on as opposed to guessing where the next car is...

Much that 'unintellible' information is 'noise' in the form of reflected glare which one can very well do without. I find polarising glasses very useful in wet/sunny conditions. Can't always read LCD displays though.bonesX said:
I mean - they do reduce the amount of information entering your eyes after all
We'll surely get the argument of quality items do not reduce anything, but how many buy cheapo sets which do just darken everything?
Unless you are going to paralise your iris I think you'll find you eye already does a good job of reducing the amount of light that goes in. Plus squinting, which is what people too poor to buy even cheapo sunglasses have to do.We'll surely get the argument of quality items do not reduce anything, but how many buy cheapo sets which do just darken everything?
Sorry, I meant "danger iris".
