Cracked exhaust.
Discussion
Has anyone on here had problems with their exhaust cracking??
A few weeks ago the drivers side exhaust cracked just where it loops over the rear anti-roll bar before it joins to the back box. I removed the exhaust and welded the crack, there was no signs of rust or corrosion, it was a clean break.
Today the passenger side pipe has just cracked in exactly the same place, I was wondering if maybe the anti-roll bar is hitting the exhaust when cornering?
The back end seams stiff enough and no signs of sagging shocks or springs.
Any ideas??

mine went after the cats where the two are welded together by a brace,
the weld naturaly produces a week spot cos the metel has been thined by the very process of welding, although the weld is good the very edge has been made thinner hence my crack,
simple fix though took it of and welded it with a longer brace.

if yours is stainless it is more prone to fatigue, if it mild steel, it will go eventualy, it's nothing you can rearly avoid, eventualy it will crack, heat wobbling vibration, all add up. if it was hitting the ARB you would know about it as it would cluck possibly very loudly into the cabin.
No haven't heard any loud clunks, maybe just be fatigue failure.
It was a clean crack though which looked to have been caused by an impact. There was a bit of scuffing on the two back boxes, as if it had been bottoming out (maybe the dreaded speedhumps!!) which could have caused a crack.
I'll whip it off and weld it up, see how it gets on.
The other side I welded a few weeks ago seams to be fine.
Its just mild steel from the cats to back box on mine.

if you hit a speed bump that could have been the straw that broke the camels back,...
i managed to bottom mine out in a valley at speeds i wont mention, made a huge grating noise and sparks i guess, but after examination i found only one the 19mm bolts on the chassis brace had took the brunt.

Slapped a quick weld on it earlier tonight and its back in business.
Think i'll need a new mid section now though, the welds just temp.
Any idea how much a standard one costs and where to get one (section from cat to back box)
I see ACT do a stainless one for £165 which I thought was quite reasonable.

yeah mine had boath been welded to death,b4 i got it.
it botoms out over the wheely ramps in the rabit worren where i live, disbite rasing the shocks by acupple of inch,
but i surpose tt was good realy b cos it led too me getting full length stainless decat sections fabed up.
i think that the MR BIG of the cerby world dose a selection im sure they will be of the usual high std & exelent value ,go on treat your loved one to a early x mas pressy.
