Hi all,

Anyone know where I can get a nice Alcantara Steering Wheel (And ideally gearstick) without getting bent over for 800 quid? (Same as the one below)

Been searching for a while but they are all "double dollar". Wondered if anyone has an hints or tips? I dont want to just get mine covered, I want the thumb inserts and thicker steering wheel you see.

Cheers

Frenchda

I have just had my e46 wheel recovered, thicker and with thumb inserts. Jack at Royal Steering wheels done this and the quality is superb.
More examples of what he does are on the M3 cutters site or google.

Another vote for Jack @ RoyalSteeringWheels.com he is doing my steering wheel, gearknob/handbrake gaiters and binnacle for my 1 series.

Thanks lads,

Thing is, I dont think I can go from this old steering wheel to the new one with the refurb. Different shape and centre all together you know.

I have just sent my M135 steering wheel to be recovered in Alcantara, i would be interested in the gear gaitors and handbrake aswell, are you going to keep the standard gear nob and handbrake handle and just purely replace the gaitors?

What was the approx cost?

Thanks

What about something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E30-GENUINE-LEATHER-... and just get it recovered in alcantara.

I am sure there are better examples available, however I just did a quick search on eBay and found the above.

OP, the original E30 M3 Sport Evolution stering wheels were not alcantara, they were suede covered and did not have any srtipes to signify 12 o'clock. If you don't wish to buy a new one then the best bet is to buy a used 370mm Mtech II wheel and have it recovered in suede, but bear in mind that the suede doesn't last very long.

Agree with E30M3SE for your best approach, each to their own of course but I've always preferred the wheel you have OP in an early car, the SE wheel looks right in an SE. I have a new SE wheel and tried it in my '87 and it just looked wrong to me.

No mate, I did buy Performance BMW Parts but wanted something abit different, still same material but with Yellow/Lemon stitching to match my Leather seats. The whole gearknob (40) /handbrake (45) along with the gaiters is being retrimmed.

I ordered one from Ledermanz on ebay in the end. Full Alcantara, M Sport Stitching, Chuncky with finger inserts and Red Alcantara 12 O'clock stripe. I chose it partly for the look, but more so because I love the feel of the Alcantara and want a thicker wheel. Have one on the porker and love the feel and grip. Kept the standard one at home in a box though for originality.

Royal steering wheels came back to me a little late and had already bought with Ledermanz (Given they also had excellent reports). I have however ordered new Gearnob and Handbrake in full Alcantara etc. Can't wait to get the parts. (Still keeping original in boxes though)

Thanks lads.

And me...

I've actually just received my Mtech 2 wheel back fully retrimmed in alcantara including the centre boss. Looks superb, its my favourite design of BMW wheel....

I've had two other wheels done in the past. Jacks work is always top quality.
