Buying a plate before it's released

Is this possible? There's a plate coming out under the '15' year registration I would like, does anyone know how early I can apply for it or what the process is?

(I'm aware it will need to go on a car that is 2015 or newer, planning to retain it until I get one)

I think the DVLA release them in advance of the reg date but I am not sure on the timeframe.

May be worth checking their site

if it's anything like the system where you can register for a number plate and the DVLA inform you when it's going to auction you could be waiting years.

It's not a particularly common plate and will most likely only 'mean something' to a small number of people so I'm assuming it wont be auctioned. (Hint: see my username!)

Yeah, can't see why not. I phoned them about an hour ago and have got PR15 TON on retention for one of my nephews.

I bought a load of 11 registrations on retention when they were released on December 8th, 2010. On this form, 15 plates will be available from December this year.
