For the last few months every time I try to start the car(997t) all I get is a click with each turn of the key. It starts eventually but I worry that one day soon it.ll decide not to start at all.The question I have is that will disconnecting the battery for a few days cause any problems? Thanks in advance for any advice given...

Before you proceed in changing the starter motor check the main earth lead as this is a known fault.

Similar thing happened to me.

My experiences here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Since then in Aug 13:
my battery died 2 weeks ago.

during the recovery of the car, the key got stuck in the ignition.

on investigation by Porsche dealer, it turns out that the ignition barrel was faulty .. sometimes, it was not fully switching off (with key removed), thus draining the battery, and after a while killing it.

I had noticed that starting seem a little weak a few weeks before the battery died.

with new ignition barrel and new battery, starting is almost scary, it's so quick and vigorous.

am wondering whether the ignition barrel problem had anything to do with the car not starting with clutch depressed, and just the one click sound - the original issue, which is now gone. I had to removed and re insert the key a number of times before the car would start, hence this suspicion.

No further issues.
