Short European Charity Rally, What Car?

The route consists of Hull to Rotterdam, then through Brussels to Le Mans, then Paris, finally back home to Huddersfield

Maximum £500 car, we're all mechanics so handy with a spanner, wanting something 'cool', but fuel costs out of our own pockets so maybe nothing with a massive engine!

What would we recommend, maybe an old Merc?
