Hi Guys,
me again! since you helped me set my network up, it has been working great. I now want to share printers. I have a mono laser printer connected to the main PC and an clour ink jet connected to the lap-top. I have been in to printer properties and ticked share printer for both printers. The lap-top will now print to the mono printer, but the main PC will not print out to the colour at the lap-top end. Going into properties it does tell me there are documents queued up, so why won't it print.
You help greatly appreciated.
Graham.

Can the laptop print to its own printer? Sounds like there's an existing printer problem there if documents are getting stuck in the queue.

Once that prints correctly, delete the connection to the laptop's printer from the main PC and then use the add printer wizard to browse to the laptop. That should install the right driver.

Hi Rob,
the Epson printer attached to the lap-top works fine.
tried what you suggested and when the wizard browsers it comes up ith a list
MS windows netork
work group
Brother MFC9180 (printer attached to main PC)

but it does not list the Epson, any further ideas please.

Have you installed the drivers for the colour printer onto the main PC?

Try "drilling" into the laptop when you browse... the printer should be listed there and when you click on it, it will install the right drivers as long as you are running the same OS on both machines. Otherwise, you'll need to install the right driver on the main PC first.

Chances are, the Brother software was available via the original windows load and so windows pulled it out of the CAB files. Chances are also (as is common with Inkjets) that the software was NOT included with the windows load making a software install necessary...

Hi,
I have just checked and the epson software is installed on the main PC. (It used to run on this before buying the Brother one) so where do I go from here.

Use the add printer wizard, but navigate into the laptop... If you can't see it, chances are it's not shared.

If it is shared, unshare it and then re-share it!

Hi Rob,
I have tried unsharing and re-sharing, but the wizard still will not browse to the epson printer.

Create a share on each PC and see if you can browse to it from the other PC. Post back how you get on.
