Monster Trucks

Was watching the Chinese Grand Prix on Iplayer before and falling asleep so had a mooch on Youtube and spotted a video of some Monster Trucks, much better, watched several, fantastic, the Americans know how to have fun.

Anyone else a fan of Monster Trucks ? much better than the rather dull F1, where they never do backflips on purpose.

Bigfoot was always the generic Monster Truck in various incarnations including a tracked version!

Grave Digger seems to be the icon at the mo I believe, but yeah what a sport. Mental horsepower and huge jumps etc.

Great fun.

I love monster trucks. I also love how utterly serious some of the 'Muricans get over a truck with enormous wheels and a massive engine.

Tractor pulling is also highly enjoyable, just for the sheer lunacy of it.

They used to come to Europe, went to the millennium stadium a few times to watch it with a few mates great fun to watch, noise the smell will never forget it. The sooner people turn away from f1 as the pinicale of motorsport other forms which are 10x better will start to grow again.

I took my kids to watch them - including Grave Digger when they did a tour over here a couple of years ago.

Fun as a one off for 30mins or so

1:20 in and you have 2 jet engines pulling the tractor along, about 2min in and what looks like a reasonably stock tractor (possibly a new holland) sticks a finger up at all the tree hungers.

Edited to add at 2:25 there's 4 jet engines strapped on the front

Whilst browsing further videos I have found the US sport of Big Rig pulling, this I can only assume is the sole contributor to the ozone layer!!

Most run big block V8s (Ford or Chevrolet with Predator carburettors and a supercharger - they all run on methanol and produce anything from 700 - 2000bhp.

For the golden age of trucks go on youtube and look up - MTRA "Racing to the finish"

Big time into this - been to see monster jam and my two boys have been nuts about this since they could play with toy cars.

We have quite a collection of hot wheels and regularly have "monster Jam" freestyle, racing and "crash badness" as my eldest calls it where the best crash wins - all computer logged with excel on the laptop. They fooking love it and will easily play for 3 HOURS!!

Santa pod have some good (for UK) monster trucks but monster jam really is the one for this stuff.

The Monster Jam site says they are trying to bring it to the UK this year so fingers crossed. I think my 5 year olds would love it!

God yes, the noise these things make is unbelievable!

They also do a lot of Big Rig drag racing in Canada - I believe the expression is "rolling coal"....

Check out the torque! Apparently those trailers usually weigh about 80-100 tons

I too love tractor pull. Then again I grew up on a farm! I prefer the diesels to the jet turbine ones though...
