just took my 2001 tuscan for a 18k service , with efi warning light on and a small rattle under the radio but only when engine at idle speed, tap the throttle and it goes away .the approved service centre is now saying that the cats have gone thats why it rattles ?and thats why the efi light is on .

the light only came on when i washed it a few days before the service .

are they pulling the wool over or could this be true , he said that it hasnt gone on the computer yet so how could they tell yet

the engine ran as sweet as a nut before so would i know if the cats had gone before i washed it ???

any hints or tips

The efi warning does occasionally come on after a good wash or downpour, something to do with the sensor being on top of the engine, directly below the gully the water runs down !!. I'd be a bit concerned if my dealer came out with that one ?.

Hi,

I used to get intermittent EFI alarm regularly after washing. I now try to limit the amount of water going directly under the upper bonnet from the windscreen end. Not sure if this is the cause but there is an electrical connection on top of the airbox that gives the EFI alarm when disconnected. I and my garage assumed that the water was affecting this connector and causing the alarm until it dried out. No other symptoms and engine is sweet as can be. Hope yours turns out to be similar......cheers.

If the cats are actually breaking up, best to get somthing done about them ASAP.It has been known for the Speed 6 engine to injest parts of broken cat. As other post the inlet temperature detector can get wet and cause EFI fault although I have known a cat break up on a Citron and give an EFI fault although it ran like a dog.
