Sorry for the dull and probably unanswerable conundrum, wavey but I've got to go to Germany to pick up an old car, drive around for a week seeing the sights and then home on the ferry.

I can't get breakdown cover with the RAC because the car hasn't come from the UK and not UK registered.

Any ideas?

It seemed like a good idea at the time of planning, now it's getting close (and realised that the RAC won't cover) i'm thinking st, what happens if it blows up halfway through? scratchchin

I would be interested in this aswell, although I will be leaving from the uk, to Europe and back to uk, and need 14 days cover.

RAC want £240 for 14 days cover!!!

I recently went to France with my car, just an 53 plate Megane worth £400 or so. Most places I checked had said that if the recovery cost more than the car does, they won't bring it home.

I've no idea how much the car you're picking up is, but it's something to check dude smile

I very much doubt you'll find any breakdown cover that'll do otherwise. The odd one or two have "defined benefit" caps - where they'll pay up to £2k, 3k or whatever - but how far will that get you? And what if it's a more valuable car in the middle of nowhere when that cap gets hit?

If you're driving a shed, and it dies, why would they recover it across several countries at vast expense, just so you can scrap it when you get it back? Yes, that's not _always_ what'll happen, and there's other things at play - but, if that's the case, you'll work it out yourself. Or, at least, that's their logic.
