Well it was a Bank holiday, the weather looked good so time for a road trip! A couple of the Diner attendees though it would be a good opportunity to have a first 2014 road trip on Easter Monday. So a few calls and e-mails with Frank and his gang in Belgium and we were on for a "Belgium return trip" So Mark (Zig) 350i who managed to miss the other trip, Paul and Sue (400SE) Leslie (Griff 500) and I set off early for the run down to the Le Shuttle. The first misshap was me putting 17 litres of diesel into the Gredge yikes It was very early and had it not been a passing attendant saying "I did not know TVR's made a diesel!" I would have filled the car! Point to note in my defence, the Shell pumps now have Optimax Petrol (red nozzle with green surround) and Optimax diesel, (red nozzle with black surround) So what to do .. the Gredge had just under half a tank of petrol already in it so given the amounts, I topped it off with another 13 litres of the correct fuel and try to drive it out topping it up to dilute the tanks and not drive the car hard. To cut a long story short the car behaved and although it was a little smelly for those behind, the car ran fine and by the end of the day and a number of fuel top ups later, normal service has been resumed, phew!

What a great day, sunshine and 20 degrees, roof off and a gaggle of TVR's whats more to like! We met up with the Belgium contingent so added a 350i and 2 more Chims and a Alpha Spyder (Dani) to the group with Frank in his Merc leading the way. Excellent Breakfast and lunch locations as well as doing most of the 1914-18 tour made an excellent day, I am sure there will be some photos to be added to the thread, but an excellent day had by all and thanks for the Belgium guys for sorting it out and joining us.

Return to Blighty was a good run into Calais but as soon as we got out of the Tunnel UK side the heavens opened ... back to reality!

Thanks all!! yes

Thanks to Chris, Frank and Hilde and everyone else who made it a rememberable day...It started for me leaving home on a very misty Monday morning..(03.45am)..Got almost to the services which was the meeting point when i spot a car with a number plate level with the rear lights..First thought..TVR...Sure enough it was Chris..Good timing..Met Paul and Sue and then Lesley at the stop...Made our way to the Tunnel and got on the train..I then realised i hadn't picked up my pre-booked euros ...rolleyes...
Then on unfamiliar ground driving on the other side of the road Poppy starts missing at high speed and being worringly lumpy!..At first i thought.."Phuck it...I do not need to effing breakdown in france"...Then i see the flap holding the ECU had fallen down so at the next available stop we pulled over and it was re-secured..A couple of minutes later Frank & Hilde arrive to lead us to the first point..Breakfast....
We are then joined by the rest of the gang..

Here is Chris watering down the diesel he put in at the services...(Note to self mate...The black pump IS diesel)..You were well lucky!

We then had a runny egg and chocolate breakfast...I spared you and took pics of the ham and bread only!

We then headed to the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917...A very fascinating eye opening experience..The reality and horror is very emotional.

The weaponry was fascinating..The amount of shells they have is extraordinary..They are still digging them up to this day...

As Lesley pointed out..How did they manage to move around to fire such long barrelled rifles in such a confined space..

We then headed off to the lunch venue and caused a bit of a stir driving through some of the streets..Quite a few were cobbled so there were quite a few bobbing heads..hehe

We then were allowed to park some cars on the pavement outside the Diner.

I saw this and thought.."This is what we need in blighty"...No entry for push bikes...laugh

Well the journey back to the crossing was a bit worrying as poppy was missing really bad and i was struggling at times to keep up..It felt like the timing was totally out..We were stuck behind a tractor for miles which caused us to miss our original train and me and Chris had to wait an hour for ours while Paul, Sue and Lesley got on the one before us...While on the train Chris checked my ECU plug which was a tad out..This totally cured the mis-firing and shyte running..Thanks mate...Got off the train and like Chris said the heavens opened up..It was like driving under water on some parts of the M20 yet people still drive way too fast...Thoroughly enjoyed the day and can't wait for Part 4...Cheers...Ziga

Hi,

It was great to meet you all, and again thanks to Frank for the organizing. The weather gods where kind to us although we caught some bad weather on the way home along with the mother and father of traffic jams, but nothing could spoil an excellent day.

Thanks for the great pics

See you all next year
Barrie
