Fast and/or valuable cars on ditchfinders

Found this 2009 CL65 running on Nankang Ultra Sport NS2s. 738 lb-ft of torque must be interesting in the wet

According to the ad, the car appears to have had just the one owner from new, curious to know why these were chosen over the OE tyre (not trolling, genuinely interested).

Lots of possible reasons.
It's quite likely the owner didn't choose the tyres specifically.

They just went to Kwik Fit and fitted whatever was cheapest without thinking about it.
To many people tyres are an annoying expense.

Nankang aren't all that bad from what I've heard, however, I'd definitely be putting high end tyres on a CL65.

Nangkang NS2's are a very good tyre.
They're getting good reviews as a cheaper alternative to AD08's etc
So much so I'm putting them on my Renault.

You're thinking of the NS2R, the NS2 is old now, and has been largely replaced by the NS20.

Odds are the tyres are new and have been put on for resale, so the dealer can show new tyres.

You're thinking of the NS2R, the NS2 is old now, and has been largely replaced by the NS20.

Odds are the tyres are new and have been put on for resale, so the dealer can show new tyres.

I expect you're right, and oddly enough that would be a real offput to think that some margin had been wasted on cheap tyres that will have to be replaced immediately by me is quite annoying, considering that I'd rather have negotiated that margin towards something more beneficial. To my eyes that car still needs new tyres just the same as if they were bald - only now the dealer has spent money on them and thinks they're a positive selling point.

Quite so. My Golf is not high end at all but the dealer had replaced two of the tyres with 'Event' tyres so they could be described as new. I looked on camskill and they were the cheapest possible option, £40 for 225/40R18 . They were binned and now I have a matching new set of Michelin PS3s on so that was £80 wasted.

If I was buying the car, I'd insist they were removed and decent stuff put on. If the dealer wouldn't do it, I'd walk. I once negotiated with a dealer when we agreed new tyres on a car for sale, that he wanted to put stters on, I paid the difference between those and my preferred tyres. Saved me having to junk a set of new albeit crap tyres.

I'd go with the "it's got new tyres" type sales pitch. Folk are easily swayed thinking that's a good thing but like as has already been said a pair or set of budgets is pointless.

I bought my Volvo S40 T4 with new front tyres as fitted by the garage.... 'Sunny' brand. Awful things. Swapped for F1 Eagles and sold the cheapos on eBay.

It's the perception of "new" tyres unfortunately.

On a different note I (being an anorak) notice a number of what I would call hot hatches and performance saloons wearing naff tyres. Why? Either the drivers are loonys or don't drive and respect their cars properly.

The PO on my 350Z put some shonky Chinese tyres on, I was ready to change them but have found them to be fine and I have no guilt about leaving a bit of them here and there.
