Laid up car insurance

How does Laid up car insurance work? Does it need to use all of my NCB? Can my NCB be mirrored for another car? I am looking at taking my M5 off the road for a while, while I get all of the niggly bits sorted out, and bring it back out next spring. I want to obviously have it insured while it is laid up (It'll only be laid up insurance as it wont be getting driven), but it will not be garaged, just kept in the back drive way of my house, behind a large gate.

Would I be able to do this, and does anyone know who could provide such cover?
