Hello all,

my accelerator pedal action is a little scratchy. I have tried lubricating the length of the throtle cable exposed when open but this hasnt resolved it. I have also tried applying oil to the complicated arm mechanism bit screwed to the underside of the dash but I dont think there is an oil can on the planet that could reach up there.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Regards,

Is the throttle body itself okay? Is it smooth when operated by hand ?

Have you looked at the mechanism in the footwell - difficult to do, but I am told the best way is to remove the roof then lay in the footwell with feet in the air - stupid looking but effective!

I checked the engine end first then did the yoga contortions in the foot well thing. I cant get oil to the flimsy pivot thingy though.

Hi Guys,

I am having similar problems myself. I have heard that the design of the throttle mechanism is not great, uses a bolt as a pivot I believe. So I was thinking of trying to improve things with some custom made bushes etc.

After attempting several advanced yoga positions I came to the conclution that this would need to be a "pedal box out" job. Guess I could do the squeeky clutch bush at the same time.

Anyway, I have not gone any further since then. Anybody had the pedal box out - is it tricky?

as trunkie says - it's the bush.

not a difficult fit at all.

Just remove the two phillips screws holding the mechanism up to the lower dash.

Then replace the plaggy buch with the brass one - makes a great improvement.

cheers

Is the throttle notchy, like an on/off switch?

If so, it could be a problem at the pedal end - but not neccessarily the bush.

IIRC, the cable was out of adjustment on mine, which made the shoulder of the little rubber cable damper foul either the cable bracket or throttle crank (can't remember which) I adjusted the pedals up to the Lotus handbook specs using the thread adjuster and it's been fine since.

Check it out if your under the dash looking at the bush - you wont want to go there too often (oh missus)

Another under dash tip, get a thick piece of sponge to lie on otherwise the seat front will dig into your back which can be unpleasant...and take your shoes before you start!
