OK, I was WilliamBall from the earlier days of PH when most folks didn't bother with alternative monikers, and stuck with it ever since.

Time for a change though, and to coincide with the grand project now underway (dropping a 'fairly healthy' small block chevy into a Tuscan) tvrolet seemed reasonable.

I was planning to put an AJP in, or possibly a Ford Cammer....but the Chevy won out in the end. The engine is now being built right now - should be ready to put in the car some time in January

Would have been a proper Nascar jobbie, except Nicolai nicked it for himself Thanks mate.

So, a Chevy is is then. At least it'll sound nice...and shouldn't be too sliggish either as I'm aiming for quite a few more BHP than the 'proper' Tuscans

Sounds like a good plan. I'll look forward to seeing it sometime in Strathblane. I just missed most of you lot yesterday...

Must get myself along nice and promptly to the next meet then

Ah was it you who arrived just as I left? Sorry I couldn't stay on, I had to get back...

Look forward to seeing this car Willie - next rolling road session maybe? (I might even get a go before it breaks next time - the RR not my car!)

That sounds frightening.

Is that the Racing Tuscan originating from the small-town-on-the-Thames-begginning-with-H saga fame?

Is the project race/track-day/road?

Great plan Tvrolet – I have been planning to try something similar myself (although everything has had to be put on hold at present as I am moving house). Have you gone for the Ls1/6 (5.7ltr V8)? If so are you sticking with the same transmission or changing that as well? I would also be interested to hear how you get on with the insurance (who, and if you don’t mind telling us - how much?)

Can/are you keeping a photographic record of the switch? It would be very helpful/interesting for those of following in your footsteps.

Good luck with the project. Keep us all informed.

Looked at all the options, and a 'common or garden' small block seemed the best option for 'bang for buck', plus parts availability. It'll be stroked to 383 (6.3L), forged steel crank, I-beam rods, bumpy cam, solid lifters, serious reworking of the heads, steel balancer, lightened flywheel, race spec carb etc. Tremec TKO600 transmission with a multi-plate clutch. I guessed the T5 box wouldn't handle the grunt

with everyone putting 300ltr nascar style v8;s in their Tuscans i must be able to claim the prize for ~"tuscan being fitted with the smallest ever engine" Im putting an ikle 4ltr Chimaera engine in mine... I cant go much bigger as i'll leave all the 5ltr griffs too far behind

Still i might build a spare monster V8 for it in case i decide to go Britcar as well as TVRCC Challenge

No problem I'd only decided to take the chim out half an hour beforehand having been a bit delayed.

Which car were you in?

Good looking machine. I was impressed you had the hood down. I need to do that more often, but I'd better get a warm hat first.

I presume you are talking about the Racing Tuscan and not the Speed 6 version?

No, but past experience has taught me that driving in cold condition with a hood down and and no warm hat can be a bit chilly. Maybe I should get one of those WW2 pilots helmets

Hopefully, doing what Peter Wheeler should have done 15 years ago.

Putting the one I 'bought' [if you consider agreeing to buy, agreeing a price, and an email from TVR Power saying 'the engine is yours' and 'available for collection' means 'bought'] in a 'special' he's having built. No idea what the car is, but I have a couple of photos of the engine that should have gone in my car, and a fuel bill for a wasted 1000 mile round trip to 'pick it up'.

Engine was/is a kosher Nascar unit that TVR Power had had hanging around for quite a while I gather. Not a new engine, (quite a few years old I think) but never run in anger.

I don't think is has any 'strategic' funtion in TVR, just a toy for Nicolai, and my loss....

William, Richard Thorpe stuck an ex-Nascar/Ascar engine in his Tuscan last year but found it undriveable on the road due to the cam not working at under 4000rpm. Fine if you're doing 140mph into turn four at Talledega but not much good if you want to run in fifth at 80mph on the M1. Richard got 4mpg out of it on the way to Zolder, due to having to stick to 3rd and 4th gears on the motorway

They (RT Racing) are fitting out a car for me for road use and I'm using a crate Chevy with a T56; not a lot of power (355bhp) but a nice lump of torque at 3250prm (405ft/lb).

I wasn't planning in dropping the engine straight in, but was going to drop it off an an engine builders who were going to make it more 'streetable'. We had guessed it would need the cam changed, and possibly the heads and manifolds.

Anyway, there's now another small block being built for the car, with hopefully 'enough' power

Once all the TVR-Chevrolets (or tvrolets ) that I gather are 'in build' are on the road, we should hold a get-together
