Hello all. Currently got a Rosso Pearl Chim that is pretty good for Rosso (those who have experienced Rosso Pearl will know what I mean). Just been given a platinum pass by the missus and going for a full respray. Always had a thing for silver Chims but which silver to go for? I have a red roof, magnolia leather with wine/red carpet. I intend to keep all that as it is. I've seen one example before silver/red hood and thought it looked lovely. What do you think? Have you got a silver chim? Cheers KTG

Mmm, Rosso is a very popular colour. Silver less so. Maybe you should stick with red, but find an alternative? I think they sourced an alternative which didn't fade as much, and there is a Yamaha (motorbike) red which is very similar and which doesn't have the same issue.

Still, a change is as good as a rest eh? Why not go for a performance boost at the same time and get is sprayed blue? They faster you know!

I have a silver chimaera with blue hood. If I remember correctly the official name of the colour is Lotus racing silver and in my opinion looks good (apart from the keyed line down the offside panels)

Whilst I looked long and hard for a silver chimaera, I'm not sure I'd go for a full colour change like you propose.......so I'd stick to the Rosso

I too have a silver chimaera with blue hood. (see profile) This is BMW Arctic Silver.
Like sjb22 - I'm not sure a full colur change is such a good idea so I'd stick to the Rosso or get a similar colour that you like better

Silver goes well with a red hood, but I'm not sure silver would go with a magnolia interior.

Go gray!!!

Mine is Starmist Gray (gunmetal grey colour) and it looks great against the magnolia, there is also a later one in the North East region that is a little lighter (Lotus titanium) and that has a full red leather interior with a red roof, and that looks stunning.

Silver is a little passe, don't you think?

I'd stick with the original colour otherwise it will set alarm bells ringing in other peoples minds when you come to sell it... (i.e. it will sound like a ringer to some)

Cheers,
Matt.

I'd agree with M@H on this one… although maybe you could go for a very similar colour that doesn't fade as easily as Rosso Pearl…?

Why will people think its a ringer if you have photos to prove before and after and reciepts for all the work?

... and can reference this thread!

People are stupid though, and will make dumb assumptions with little justification. Wouldn't stop me changing the colour though, if I really wanted a particular colour.

Still don't think Rosso to silver would be progress though!

.....you didn't say that when you suggested I look at what is now "mine".....!!!

Speaking as an owner of a resprayed, change of colour car........the owner of the car who got it done compiled a complete file of before, during and after pics, plus a signed letter from the Paint shop (a well known TVR place btw) declaring that the respray was solely for colour change purposes, not because of any damage blah blah....

I reckoned that was all fine, and as a result have a 95 car with near perfect bodywork in a gorgeous colour....

Stick with the same colour or a variation but very similar. You will devalue your car if you get a colour change. Plus with your car, if you get a respray say silver or blue and then it stonechips, it'll be red underneath. It'll look like your car has zits!

For the record, there is a Honda colour which is virtually identical to TVR's Rosso and it doesn't bleach or fade or even cost as much per litre. TVRBodyshop (Bristol), CentralTVR (Brum) and Linds (Yorkshire) are all using it.

Why???
On a modern car, it really does put buyers off, they wonder why the colour has been changed. No problems if the car is a classic and has been the subject of a restoration though.....

Based on what evidence....???
My own experience. Sadly I can't get a real job, so I sell cars for a living.

Fairy nuff.....

But surely that is the point.....a TVR is closer to a "Classic Car", and will be viewed as such by prospective buyers/owners, than a modern tin box....???? IMH(inexperienced)O.....

Hi Wwesty - You are right to a certain extent and condition condition condition is usually the most important point. But if you put any "doubt" into a buyer's mind (ie why has the colour been changed - has it been crashed; where is the fsh - has it been clocked etc) they need an incentive to buy that car and that incentive, is usually that it is cheaper than other similar cars. (Or if you're lucky, it looks nicer due to the respray!?!)

With a classic restored car, it is usually taken back to bodyshell then resprayed. So when it gets chipped or scuffed, the primer or undercoat usually shows and it is less evident. With a colour change, especially a red to silver TVR, the car will look a mess with red stonechips and primer stonechips showing after a few thousand miles.

If KTG gets his car resprayed in a shade of red or in TVR Rosso or the Honda Rosso, there is no need to change the V5 and thus raise any "doubts". When it starts to stonechip, there won't be a mess of different colours. His car will look better than a similar aged/spec, non-painted car.

All the above is IMO of course and if KTG wants a colour change, it's his money and his choice.
