996 @ Glastonbury

Quick question, do you think I would look like a bit of a tosser to take my old faithful 996 to Glasto and park it in the campervan area? It's my third Glasto stint, 1st time was down in an old A2 and camping in the really crap bit, 2nd time down in my good old honda jazz banger with scratches and dints all over it and neither car got a second look (well, the honda got laughed at a bit for being such a state) but I think this year if the weather is nice it would be quite a nice drive down in the 996 cab.
It's a silly thing to have to worry about considering my friend will be bringing her brand new 1-series bmw cab and probably won't have to give a monkeys about parking it up.

Hey by the way how much are you paying to rent a house? Is it crazy cash? Are you one of those people that bike ride in? I can imagine the ride into the festival is pretty neat but the one home at 5 am can get pretty scary! 
I found a local caravan company who do me a good deal on the week for a 5 berth and it works out much less risky (no fear of crashing it as its delivered), easier (already pitched) and cheaper than the campervan option - it's probably the same size too albeit without the same electricity based benefits (cant plug in additional appliances).

Ah something lost in translation I think! It's an actual caravan I have hired and they deliver it on site then you just pull up in your car and park it next to the caravan and whack a code in to enter - I stayed in one by the same company last year and have it pre-booked again this year 
On another note, I always thought Glasto was full of hippies whereas now it appears that those guys in beards and sandals might actually just be 993 owners!

Do you book the caravan and it comes with tickets? Far more civilised than trying to book on the internet or the telephone.

You've still got the rigmorall of the ticket rush but the caravan bit is easy.
400 quid + 150 quid refundable security deposit

Delivered a week in advance to the east campervan site - its practically at the entrance to it (go in then take immediate left so furthermost corner on map) so you can turn up first thing tuesday and its ready for you
No queue into campervan site when arriving by car
No getting up at 5 am to stand in a big line with hangover waiting to get into festival with a stack of heavy gear to carry! In fact there is no real queue on that side at all! Plus you sleep like a baby anyway as its nice and warm and just wake up and stroll in casually at 9am after breakfast

Do you think anyone at Glastonbury will really give a hoot what you are driving? We go to Glastonbury for the fun and music of Glastonbury and not to look at cars. It used to be a great festival before it got invaded by people that care about how people perceive them. Your more likely to get you car stolen or damaged in a leafy suburb of any UK town than at Glastonbury! Just get muddy, get ripped and laugh alot, that is what Glastonbury is about!
To be honest I'd rather spent a week with some of the 'great unwashed' at Glastonbury than some of the so called respectable people that head down in their 4x4's and sports cars. From my experiences it's the ones with money that behave in the disrespectful way to other festival goers....

What I do care about though is the fact it has been in the family for 16 years and I dont want someone to run over the top of it as that would be expensive to fix! I have had this happen on another cab before.
The only reason I want to drive it down as the other option is my 2002 Honda Jazz which has no AC in fact no working fans, no stereo (tape deck is bust), windows dont wind down, door locks dont work (have to lock/unlock via the boot, has a bumper hanging off and needs a service / being set on fire desperately. Oh and it smells of sour milk where the baby has chucked it around.
It's basically a case of do I really want to drive for 6 hours in that thing again in the heat (wishful thinking) or take the porker and risk damage as I only take one holiday a year without the child and it's Glasto.
What I do care about though is the fact it has been in the family for 16 years and I dont want someone to run over the top of it as that would be expensive to fix! I have had this happen on another cab before.

Graemel, tell him to try caravan hire somerset and see if they have any caravans left, it's a cheap and easy option if they haven't all been booked already and they are really nice people.
One drawback is the walk as the pre-pitched campervans are the furthermost out from the festival whereas if you tow your own you can pitch it infinitely closer.
In fact not sure how it would work if they have booked a pitch already as I have never had to do it that way before.

The answer is no people won't think your a tosser. 99% of them won't care as they are there for the music and the drugs and alcohol (or all three!).
I wasn't having a pop at you so don't think it....
If your worried stick a cover in the boot so no one will see it is a 911...they will think it is a tent:-)

The amount of grief I get at places where I work when they find out what car I drive (I dont park in the company car park but in the local BnQ) is really frustrating, especially when the car costs like 8k and the people complaining are driving brand new audis or BMWs costing 5 times that amount.
Hmm still undecided whether to take it, might hire a small citroen hatch like i did for kendall calling one year and had it back to them looking like it's been through a warzone.

I got a good deal as some relatives live in Pilton, £100/night for the 5 nights. Cheap compared to the £1000+ for a teepee in a separate "posh" field. Although your deal sounds very reasonable too - how far do you have to walk to an entrance?

You think the Yurt is bad....some friends who have never been before paid a website for "posh camping" and basically paid 600 each for what promised to be an ultra posh setup....they didn't tell any of the friends who were regular attendees....
It was only when they arrived that they discovered they had been totally ripped off. Basically the people selling the accomodation had taken the photos from the camp kerala tents (arent they like 5k or something crazy for the celebs?) and then bought a pre-pitched tent from the glasto website for say 600 quid and sold it on to my friends for 600 each - and that's for 7 of them.
