Proof that safety cameras do not save lives

I was driving down the Royal Docks Road A1020 in Beckton (South London) yesterday, coming down from the A13.

For those of you who don't know this area, the road is a two lane dual carriageway with a 40 limit and there is a section which has a motorway style central reservation but no pavements on either side. There are railings along the length of the road with waste ground on one side and trees/bushes on the other side. (i.e. no pedestiran access).

As I was driving along I noticed quite a few bunches of flowers, some recent and some old, attached to the central reservation barriers, presumably marking the spot where someone met their demise on said road.

However, not 100m further up the road what do I see, not one but two Gatso's, each dilligently patroling their side of the road.

I don't know the details of the accident as I don't live locally, however I think that the image of a shrine marking another death on the roads, within sight of 2 Gatso's, clearly shows that the cameras are totally ineffective at reducing accidents and KSI's.

I will try to get a photograph next time I am passing the area, as it will make a striking image of the uselessness of these so called safety cameras.

Looks like the ones they use in Cheshire, they never have a number on they assume people are bright enough to figure that out. Looks genuine enough to me. With that kind of cynicism I am surprised you are not an anti camera activist.

Still proves that scameras dont do sh*t when it comes to combating real problems regarding road safety!

car safety greatly improved,
average vehicle speed reduced,
many many scameras -

Death rate UP

My (previous) point being: scameras do not address the real/most significant causes of KSIs

I'm all with you on that...

I believe more trafpol is the answer...but months and years of "Have you nothing better to do officer" and "Where were you when my shed was broken into" have meant the top police officers and the Goverment have put bobbies where people originally wanted them, and concentrated road policing with Speed Cameras..

Now the public are saying..."No we want the trafpol back"...

It might just be a little too little, too late...

Be careful what you wish for, in case you might just get it..

hi Street, well from my point of view, too many traf-pol means I can't speed where there are no cameras, I can drive drunk, and on the wrong side of the road if I want. (in this case "I" does not actually mean me, as in Hertsbiker, it means Joe public).

What's yer point destroyer? he was 16?, he stole the car? he was driving like a twat? he died? All true and not only did the camera not stop him, it actually contributed by being another pointless piece of street furniture.

Although I have to agree with Streetcop, compared to the hundreds of lives it has saved, what's one more little scrote?

What we wish for SC old buddy is more trafpol AND more crime fighting, why is that asking too much?
Perhaps if the bloody guvmnt left you all to do your job instead of making you fill out reams of paperwork to provide statistics for them to manipulate we might all get what we want
