Went to pick parents up tonight at Manchester Terminal 2. Having established that they've landed I drive to pickup area which has maybe three cars waiting( and space for hundreds more). Now there are double yellows but also a clearly defined area off the carriage way to stop and load. So am sat in the car reading the paper waiting for them to come out when astra pulls up next to me (and blocks carriage way!) I wind down my window and smile and plod says
"Ill give you something more interesting to read" I ask what, genuinely not following " A ticket these are double yellows blah blah blah" I explain that Im waiting for people I know to be on there way out but no, cant be done, they have to be actually on the pavement by the side of the car before you can even stop. I then have to drive round the system hoping I dont just miss them and they the have to wait 10 minutes outside in below freezing weather. On each occasion I notice plod parked on double yellow making sure I dont stop without due cause.

Now if it was busy, if he'd just asked me to move fair enough but no, he had to be a pratt

I accept that the dialogue was less than professional

Airports are sensitive places. They are strictly Policed because of that.

Why did you stop there knowing your passengers were not there to collect immediately?
The signs quite clearly state that the areas outside terminals are for drop off/collecting only. Reading the paper whilst waiting is not allowed. It clearly states No waiting!

Next time go to the short term car park, pay your £5 for 30 minutes and wait in the terminal arrivals building. You will then not have the problem of being spoken to for breaking the law by someone who has been practicing the art of sarcasm badly on you!

Jeezus gone, robbing a bank at gun point is breaking the law, selling crack to kids is breaking the law, robbing OAP's and beating them half to death is breaking the law.

You say it like parking up as he did, is the same as the above.

Perspective man!

If you really wanted to do damage, the smartest place to launch an attack would be past the end of the runway (when in the air), not at the terminal (where you can’t even see it). These areas are not policed!

smac’s attitude was entirely reasonable and was not inconveniencing anyone, so what exactly was the problem?

I was at Nice airport a couple of weeks ago. The drop-off point there is called "kiss and fly".

Just a sweet thought to brighten the day....

Same in Atlanta. Which is worrying when your boss is dropping you off.....

Not too mention of course the selfish twats who block the drop of zone at Stanstead whilst waiting to pick people up, or the utter chaos at Glasgow caused by similar ****wits. Drop of zones are for dropping off. Short term car parks are for waiting to pick up passangers. If you wish to be utterly selfish, you deserve what you get. I would personaly opt for crushing the vehicle, mere sarcasm is simply not enough.

if the area does indeed clearly say *no waiting* then I'm afraid they were right to move you on, the manner could have been more polite though ...

So civilised on mainland Europe ......

But ..... speaking of this drop off point at MIA..... it ist there to pick up und drop off passengers.... because it ist not that easy to get your suitcases in thay tiny lift they have to the over-priced short stay.

Have circuited this airport in past waiting for my Papa und Mama to get act together ...und it is a long circuit to drive around..... und no guarantee of being able to stop in the lay-by when you need it...

Think the BiB could have just politely told you to drive around again ... und as for him parking (for what would have been a long time if you copped him on each lap of the airport) on the doubles to make sure other people do not stop on them ... think I might just have taken the number and sent polite little letter on topic of "causing a hazard"

It's not the fault of the drivers, its the fault of the STUPID design & re-hash of the access to the place.

No where to wait if a plane is delayed without paying £8 an hour parking fees in the 20 min car park. The parking areas have no flight arrivals info at them either. No where for drivers to take a break after the inevitable long journey. Why not take Public Transport they say? well that does'nt work when a plane arrives late at 1am does it?

Plus what feckwit put the parking area an hours access away (go on time it next time) from leaving the plane

Stanstead has to go down as one of the WORST DESIGNED aiports of ALL TIME ever.

Compare it to Frankfurt airport, or Prague & then you'll see what I'm on about.

So own up anyone who had anything to do with this, I shall be giving out the Ministry Of Crap Design Awards to the Finalists very soon.

The only saving grace is there are some nice slidy roundabouts to waste 20 mins on

Usually the 'very short term' car park offers free parking for 15/20mins for this purpose. Failing that go to Maccie Deez and have a bag of chips and read the paper. Cost for an hours parking is then a squid

No it wasn't. Thats why he was told to move. Thats why they waited to make sure he did not contravene the rule again. Good job it wasn't in Spain. He may well have had a gun pointed at him as well

Then accept the £30 fine and possibility of vehicle removal at his own expense!

Just as I said

Still it was only a little wait and only a small regulation, so whats the problem anyway?

In Baghdad, these sort of vehicles suddenly errupt into 150lb of IED. Whats to say it wont happen here if Police do not continually move people on?

Its a possibility that it will happen anyway but if a terrorist wants to make maximum impact, he/she will wait for the optimum moment. Having to park and explode immediately may not get the proper target !

An hour? You were lucky! Park in the mid-term -- it's a bit quicker, and pre-booking saves some of the price pain. Still, it won't change the ages it takes to get through passport control followed by the ages to wait for baggage. It just doesn't seem to be able to cope with the passenger volumes. Nice building, though.

Wow

It hadnt occurred to me that I might be a terrorist. Im going to lock myself in a room and ask myself some pretty searching questions. Good job they moved me on when they did. Lets hope no terrorist reads your suggestion and works out that they can just put the car full of semtex in the short stay/huge pay car park alongside instead - maybe they know this but cant justify the £5.

Im there to pick someone up, now you cant stop unless theyre on the pavement next to you but you cant see where they are because you cant stop. Presumably if I driven slowly along, looking for them said clown would have warned me for kerb crawling.

Yeh, but No, But yeh they could do that, but like they really need to get close up to a building to do a lot of personal injury and blowing up a few cars in the shortterm carpark ain't gonno hurt a lot of people ( other than the insurance companies).

Take the exit to Wythenshaw and park up there if you're early and get folks to ring you when they're out of Customs - only a 5 mnute drive away and folks can stop by the doors until you turn up.
