Advice Please...

Hi all. Being the law abiding citizen that I am I didnt think I'd need to ask advice on this board but here goes...
Just been pulled over for allegedly exceeding a 30mph Limit. I was approaching the national speed limit signs and literally 10 yards before the signs I added more right foot.
Driving conditions were clear and there was no traffic on the road. An unmarked car had been following me for about 2 miles and they admitted that they did not trigger their video camera correctly and so my car is not in shot (apart from the rear end for about 1 second turning left at a mini roundabout).
It was their opinion that I was in excess of 45mph from that roundabout. The video footage shows them driving as they were following me (although you cannot see my car) and they say that they were going faster than 30mph. But they would have been because they were a distance behind me and had to catch me up!
Where do I stand? I was very concious to drive safely in the conditions and posed no threat to man or beast. They followed me for another mile down a straight 1 mile road in national speed limit and I was under the limit as I was concious to take it easy.
As I said, it is their opinion against mine and the video footage only shows them allegedly following me for a short time (as my car is in shot for literally a second). Should I dispute this? do I have a case or do I take the 3 points and fine? It is possible i was in excess for a short while.However it was 11:30pm with no cars and streets were very well lit. I was certainly driving responsibly. I am inevitably an easy target driving a Lotus I guess, which I'm sure you can appreciate accelerates much quicker than your average car.
I have a witness if that makes any difference.
It just annoys me because they admitted that I wasnt driving recklessly, it was good clear conditions and no cars were on the road.

Many on this site would have been over the moon to have been caught and booked by a real Policeman and not a camera. You appear to be one of those who are not

Booked if the circumstances warrant it, certainly. Being in excess of a speed limit for a very short time but done in perfect safety is a little OTT. If they are simply going to prosecute the most minor of speed limit excesses, then what makes them different to speed cameras?

maverick25, if you have a genuine grievance, bring it up. If you feel the risk of paying a greater fine is worth the chance of losing the points, then go for it. The law is an ass, so go spank it.

I think you will find that being a law abiding citizen AND getting done for the myriad of motoring offences out there now can go hand in hand.
The motoring laws, their application and judgement of offences straddle a broad line between justice and gangsterism.
In fairness, if you KNEW you were being followed, why the hell did you break the limit at all? I don't want to sound patronising, but when I am being followed I drive like I am on my driving test again and give them no cause to stop if at all possible.
However, I do sympathise and suspect you may have to take it on the chin.
