Anyone know of any good riding around Manchester? Preferably trail centre stuff.

The nearest you can get to trail centres are http://www.nationalcyclingcentre.com/mtb/the-mount... and http://www.ibikeride.com/england/1879-philips-park...

Both are good fun for an hour or two. Other than that you're looking at natural trails - where in Manchestoh do you live?

As above, they are your 2 main trails, Nothing amazing, just parts of inner city scrubland made useful, definatly non compareable to Dalby or Cannock etc, do able easily in an hour, short and technical.

As to where in Manchester your based you can head out a few miles, The Moors at the back of Oldham has some tremendous routes, paths and tracks, Rivington over Bolton way, Head through Stockport/Glossop towards the peak's.
If you can put the bike in the car and travel for 30 minutes your laughing.

Tail centres at Lee Quarry and Gisburn Forest would easily be within an hours drive from anywhere in Manchester, or head along the m62 for 30 mins and explore the Calder valley?

Clayton Vale isn't upto much, I just do an hour there at full gas as a workout. It's not technical but can be ridden flat out. Lots of folk with gold chains & big dogs on the trials getting in the way.

Just the other side of Stockport is Marple, park at the Roman Lakes & head towards Strines Station then up past the golf course (that'll test ya legs) then there's plenty of scope to put something together, I usually head to Hayfield & over Middle Moor then back over Cown Edge. Great route & about 2h 30 ish

Lee Quarry not too far away but its very small & it's not that easy to string a lap together as it's not they well marked out. Cragg Quarry is rideable from Lee so you can of both on the same outing.

Llandegla about an hour away & Gisburn about 1h30. Much prefer Gisburn.

Phillips park, as mentioned it doesnt offer much but it's pretty challenging if you are keen to push on at a fast pace. I like it but then I'm XC bias!

There's a cool roller coaster section at Philips Park where you're running along the motorway, it swoops up and down and you can carry a lot of speed through the trees. Same on the southern loop through the rhododendrons. I've got a heavy Orange 5, so I'd love try spanking a light HT with skinny tyres round there.

Gisburn Forest is very nice. But you have to pay for parking......only £3 though. Some nice routes there for all levels of rider.

Really?
I was there last week, parked up at Tosside for free.
