Car company checking me out online.....
Discussion
Several years ago, and several car purchases ago, I got in touch with Infiniti for a brochure on a model my wife liked This not long after they launched in the UK.
We all must get the odd sales email from manufactures and dealers....latest offers
, things like that. I'm quite happy to receive them.
I rarely use LinkedIn, but logged on yesterday to see than among the people (all connected with my industry and a business I run) who have viewed my profile is a guy from Infiniti in Reading. I live at the other end of the country.
I am not in the motor trade, have no professional connection with cars. I have no connections on LinkedIn with the bloke. There was no message left, nor a request to connect. I appears he logged on to find out a bit more about me.
What do you think? A new way of finding custom? A desparate attempt to find a sale? A bit wierd/stalkerish?
Afterall this was a vague enquiry from many years ago about a "posh" Nissan. Similar enquiries went to Jaguar, Mercedes and even Citroen (I wanted a C6, she hated them) Is Infiniti like a modern day Bristol where they only sell to the right sort of chap, and need to check my credentials.
I've not made my mind up on this...
A much more likely scenario - you probably gave your email address to them, and for whatever reason, he has the mailout contacts in his contact list. Linkedin listed you as someone they might know due to the email address. I very much doubt they were actively searching for your custom or anything like that.
EDIT: I have just seen this has already been mention - missed that on first scroll through.
