Next thing I've found that's knackered is the passenger driveshaft, had a bit of movement in the Inner UJ (or so I thought) turns out the bearing cap of the UJ Is loose in the driveshaft itself.

Anyone got another small type driveshaft to fit a 280i? It's the main part of the shaft that's shot, the flange that fixes to the diff is ok, as is the stub shaft the goes through the wheel bearing.

Is it just one cap or all 4 of one joint? Or worse still all 8... could be someone's fitted the wrong UJs? Otherwise I'd be wondering if the cap's gone in skew-whiff and been moving in service, damaging the bore in the process...

Hi Tobz..Seems like the old girl is falling a bloody part..I had the UJ's x 4 all replaced the same time as the trailing arm mounts and pins and nothing was mentioned about play in the half shafts..Perhaps i should pop over and give her a slap....Ziga

I think I have one too - the stub axle is shot hence it would match your parts perfectly.

Job all done now, need to go and give her a thrashing now to see if they've made a difference, for just over £200 in parts I should hope it's sorted it out! I can get a full polybush kit for a mini for £30! £30 bought me a pair of bushes to do 1 tie rod! These TVR's are bloody expensive! frown

Well if you will insist on that polyurethane nonsense wink

Full set of ten bonded rubber bushes for an A-frame car is a few tenners, not like the almost-£300 they cost in polyurethane...
