Aston Warranty
Discussion
I'm pretty sure that if the car is under five5 years old you get a premium for about £1450, so if you take this out for two years you get premium cover . If you take out warranty after five5 years (1st date of reg) you will only get plus for that price, premium costs about £1850. They used to charge £300 for the pre warranty check although if you had a service at the same time they would waver that charge.
The premium and the plus comparisons are for you to decide, you can Google the different coverage.
They both include breakdown cover and a decent hire car. You do get charged about £12.00 a day for damage cover on the hire car, it's normally a BMW/Merc.
I used the premium warranty about thirteen times in year one on a four year old V8. Mainly for the same re-occurring fault, this was due to AM not being able to diagnose the fault. Almost all faults were electrical. I spent over £400 on the hire car charge.
Year 2 was a better year, air con rad and one (yes one) road spring, they would not replace the pair 9scary stuff).
May 2013 I bought the plus warranty and touch wood, haven't used it but it goes in for service next week.
IF nothing major arises from that I'm seriously considering ditching AM and going RAC, they do top whack breakdown AND £750 of breakdown cover for £230ish. You can use it several times a year, OK £750 might not go a long way in a dealer but it will soften the blow.

Like many people on here, I'm currently debating the extended warranty / versus taking a gamble.
I've read through the warranty guide, and is it just me or does the Plus warranty looks like it actually covers sweet FA ?
My car is an 09 4.7 V8VR and it's done 3700 miles (I got it at 3400). I'm really torn whether to stump up the £1427.99 or whether to take the gamble. I'm reliably informed that it's never required any warranty work, and the recent service and pre-warranty inspection (Strastones) only bought up two things (filler cap gas strut and TPM fluid refill.....which have been done).
I'm probably only going to put another 3000 on it in the next 12 months.
I appreciate that some will say get it, others will say wing it and pray. What i'm keener to know though, is that in reality are many of the 'likely' issues going to be covered under the Plus warranty or not ? Also, it looks like they have a £10,000 claim limit, so if the engine commits suicide, I doubt 10 grand is going to get me out of trouble.
As always, any thoughts and advice will be gratefully received.

Nope.
The original owner didn't extend it after the initial manufacturer 3 year warranty expired. He said he did so few miles, that he couldn't justify it.
The car had done 1000 miles in the first three years (criminal I know), and then the next 2400 miles over the last two years (without warranty).
As I said I know there's nothing wrong with it "today" as Stratstones completed the pre-warranty check last week along with a service, and those two minor issues were put right.

You've got it
If it covered things that went wrong, how could they make money? They are a business.
Someonewill be along to say their engine exploded and they saved BIG but the reward outweighs the risk. Gaydon cars are very reliable.
Hi Yeti
That more or less sums up my thinking to be honest. On day one I was thinking I MUST have that warranty, but the more I read about it the less it looks like it covers anything other than the small spring in the glovebox switch.....and even that's up for dispute !
I'm not stupid enough to think nothing will ever need fixing, but providing it's looked after and not abused, then I'm starting think that unless i'm unlucky, any odds and sods shouldn't exceed £1500pa from a specialist (not including servicing obviously).
The fact that Stratstones have given it a clean bill of health is also a bonus obviously.

This comes up pretty frequently and the answer is always the same - it depends entirely on your approach to risk. Two options, shell out for a warranty that gives (IMHO only limited) piece of mind, or put the cash away to earn (measly) interest in the hope that nothing goes horribly wrong.
Pros and cons to both, but to my mind the warranty covers fairly infrequent failures and certainly does not cover the larger consumable such as clutch.
FWIW, I've not bothered to renew mine and I'm not losing any sleep at all - as Yeti says, the Gaydon era cars are mechanically very sound and later models tend to have the niggles ironed out. That's my 2p worth.

Into my second year without a warranty now. In the first year (after it was over three year old and its a MY 201 4.7 Manual) I had a TPMS sensor to renew, an outside Thermometer and a rear Parking sensor.
The rear parking sensor I did myself for £48, the other two were just under £300 IIRC at Aston Service .
Big saving on the warranty. Touching wood furiously here but up to now, nothing this year and its 6 month into it.

I think sometimes we start to panic because of the badge (and history) as opposed to the reality of what may happen.
Not being funny, I had an SL Merc and didn't even consider extending the warranty, I just assumed I would pay up it if broke (which it never did apart from the odd non-warranty item anyway). Ok, so not Aston repair costs, but far from cheap either.

No worries. If it had still been under warranty (which was about to expire), one option would have been to take it down to Bamford Rose who could list all the potential warranty defects. Then get those sorted at a dealer before the warranty expired. The original owner didn't extend it after the initial manufacturer 3 year warranty expired. But, infortunately, that doesn't apply to you. FWIW, I am also one of those who chose to 'self warranty'.
ok, lets throw this one out there........
Is there anyone who didn't have warranty who now lives with a horror story ?
I've seen that plenty of people self-warranty (which is nice to see), but thankfully I've not seen anybody saying their car exploded 10 minutes after the warranty expired.

I have had my 2006 Vantage since 2007 and done 67k miles in it. Its been out of warranty since 2009
Its had regular servicing and non service items:
aircon compressor - £500 fitted and gassed
2 wheel bearings - £400 fitted
2 coolant sensors - £20 each time
thermostat - £200 fitted
O2 sensor - £100 fitted
so at £1500 a year warranty saving for 5 years im about £6k up...you need to be very unlucky to spend £1500 a year on non service or non consumables....
generally you dont hear of major component failures with these cars (so far) its usually consumables and niggles ...clutch is the biggest expense but you can get that done for £1300 now (wear components)

Ok as the original question setter, thanks for all the comments, am on my third Vantage, having put a combined 35000 miles on all three cars, worst issue I had to deal with was a juddery paddle change, which 3 dealerships couldn't fix, so I changed to a manual. So since Jan 2006, my Aston ownership has proved at least as reliable and trouble free as any other brand I have ever owned. So am going to "risk" not taking out a warranty.......

Now that's class.....don't fix the problem, change the car......I like your style !
Aye a but extreme I know, but Grange did me a great deal on part ex, AND a big discount on the new price so I got a 4.7 with all the bits I wanted........just got divorced, so hope I can hang on to the car as the witch is sucking the blood out of me!!!
