Focus buying advice please.

Evening all,
An elderly neighbour is looking to buy a Focus Estate for his daughter, and has asked for advice.
Looking at a Mk 2 facelift, probably with high mileage.
They have no preference for fuel type.
Are there any know issues, either with the model in general or specifically with diesels or petrols?
A very general/open enquiry, I know. But any advice will be gratefully received.
He's also looking at Insignias, so I'll make the same enquiry in the Vauxhall section.
