1998 Chimaera 400.

I have some dodgy connections on my MAF (3AM) sensor so am in the process of rectifying this.

Does anyone know the correct colour wiring to the pins on the MAF ?

There are 6 pins on the MAF, from Front to Back.

I'll call them 1,2,3,4,5,6 (ie front equals the pin nearest the front of the car)

So if you stand beside the front wing on the nearside of the car then pin 1 is on the left and 6 on the right.

1 no wire
2 red/black (to ecu pin 25)
3 blue/green (ecu pin 35)
4 no wire
5 brown/orange (to ecu pin 2)
6 blue/red (to ecu pin 22)

Reason for asking is that mods/repairs ?? appear to have been made at some point in its history and I'm not sure they were done correctly, I may be wrong but I just want to be sure. (I have an ongoing high fuel consumption problem and this is one possible cause)

Also related issue, anyone got a MAF connector plug with a bit of wiring on it kicking around they'd like to sell me ?

The Black Red should be on Pin 1, not 2 (its the earth). There are some unused pins- but I dont think 1 and 2 are connected- but you can meter it out and see if its zero ohms between them. The Earth does not connect to the AFM body btw.

Black and Red are earth
Blue green AFM output
Broun Orange 12 volt
Blue red CO trim for non cat map.

The connector is one of the common "mini timer" range, that you should still be able to get new from vehicle wiring suppliers- second hand is never good...

Bizarre TVR world we live in

I have swapped the current setup
1 no wire
2 red/black (to ecu pin 25)
3 blue/green (ecu pin 35)
4 no wire
5 brown/orange (to ecu pin 2)
6 blue/red (to ecu pin 22)

to this, ie move red black from 2 to 1
1 no wire
2 red/black (to ecu pin 25)
3 blue/green (ecu pin 35)
4 no wire
5 brown/orange (to ecu pin 2)
6 blue/red (to ecu pin 22)

Car now runs beautifully, haven't done the mpg test as yet but already I can see the needle on the fuel gauge no longer visibly moving whilst driving.

Great days work........so pleased with it now.

Big thanks to you both for your replies, lovely community we have here, full of really helpful people.

Well that's now confirmed as "A RESULT"

Been out on an extensive run and returned with 23.8 mpg and running beautifully with pops and bangs on the over run (up from 10.3 mpg and running badly)

Great question, I have no idea.......I am wondering that myself and coming up with no answers.

When I bought the car over 2 years ago, the wiring into the MAF connector had evidence that it had been tampered with, ie the normal shrouding was cut away with the wires going in exposed. I don't know whether that was 'damage by wear and tear' or a deliberate intervention by someone making a mod or repair.
At that time I had to resolder the last wire back on (at pin 6) as it had broken off at the solder joint.

I should also say that 2 years ago it was returning 23 mpg. if I remember correctly.

Note: Car is fitted with a 3AM MAF but did come with a 'spare' 5AM

I'm left with some interesting questions....
1. Is it possible PIN 2 has slowly deteriorated over 2 years ?
2. Is it possible PIN 1 has taken over 'ground' duties (or always was ground)
3. Was it connected rightly or wrongly when I bought it ?
4. Was 5AM taken off and 3AM put on and the MAF connector modified at that time ?

all of these questions and more are left open, so no answers but the car is running well and as expected.

I'm looking for a 5AM MAF do you want to part with your "spare" assuming it is in GWO?

Finally tracked down the correct plug to go into the MAF.

Its called a Durite Junior Power Timer 6 way connector

There are a number of suppliers, here is where I ordered it.

Thank you blitzracing for the very valuable info which enabled me to track it down.
