Having a little problem whilst fitting new cranks, bike is supposed to be 73mm shell but when I put it together with 1 spacer on right hand crank the cranks are very close to the chain arms and chain is out of line so I tried it with 2 on right and 1 on the left and it seems to be better.is it okay to ass set up as a 68mm when it's a 73mm?

I've just read on another forum about putting the gears on the other side of the spider to move the chain line, is this ok?

How was everything that you took off arranged?

Some pictures would help here, but no- don't move the rings to the other side of the spider, use the spacers to position the rings so they don't hit the chainstay.

You don't need much of a gap, just some gap.

Supposed to be 73 mm , may involve a ruler to confirm this. Then we can work it out. Your cranks wont fit on the spline enough, if you have a 73mm shell and 3 spacers fitted. ( it will but you will loose strength on the clamping crank)

It was a truvativ issis i took off.
i had to put it back to one spacer as you said not enough thread but now the chain line is out and it won't drop into little ring tried to alter the mech but it won't go enough it hits a stop. So when i read about moving to the other side of the spider it moves the chain line 5mm, that will be about right.


When I put the spacers back where they should it did look okay, i was a bit hasty when i said to close so now my only problem is the chain line
