Am I right in thinking I can connect one output to my Panasonic TXP46G10(?) plasma and the other to my Optoma HD33 3D projector and switch the output depending on what I want to watch. It may sound like an obvious question but I've had many issues with my single output Denon and HDMI splitters and eventually given up so I just physically swap the cable.

We mainly use the projector for 3D blurays with a ps/3 source so it is important they passthrough the 3D

The AV amps I'm considering are Sony STR-DN1040 or Onkyo TX-NR626. Are there any others sub £400?

FWIW I've been using an Onkyo 818 as a pre amp and that has dual HDMI outputs feeding a Panasonic TV and a JVC X35 projector. I have it set so that the TV is the 'main' output so all the coloured menus appear on the TV, but a simpler black and white menu appears when using the projector. No reason to think that the other Onkyos would be any different. The picture can appear on both displays if needed too, not that it would any use to me as my projector screen drops in front of my TV.

Thanks, useful info.

The problem with using a splitter is that the HMDI handshake seems to use the lowest specification, so even if the TV is switched off it will not output 3D to the projector because one of the devices connected will not support it.

So, I'm hoping that the AV amp has separate HDMI handshake for each connection.

I have a similar problem as my Denon amp only has one output, but I have been successfully using one of these splitter boxes:

Neet HDMI splitter

I was sceptical at first but all seems good. I don't power it externally but my projector HDMI cable is powered as it's a long one and that seems to do the job of powering the box as well.

I have one of those and I had loads of trouble with it. Maybe I'll have another go.

I have the exact same splitter box - had it since March last year, left permanently on - works perfectly. Whilst the 2 TVs are both 3D enabled, it makes no difference even if one is switched off (at the mains or on standby). One lead to the TV is 2 metres, the other is on a 10 metre HDMI cable - Kanaan HDMI v1.4 from Amazon. I think I do have it powered though.

When I first installed it I had it powered externally as well and it didn't work. I noticed it came on when I plugged just the USB powered HDMI cable in to one of the outputs so removed the box power supply and it works perfectly.

Maybe getting 12v from two sources was too much for it! smile
